This seems to be the turbo of choice for the majority of KA'Ts. Are some better than others, or is the plain Garret one fine? What I'm wondering about is whether different bearing upgrades or turbos from companies like Precision are better made/quicker spooling/longer lasting, etc. Thanks!

All depends on your goals and budget.

I like my 270* standard bearing Garrett...but would I like to have a BB GT series turbo with a 50-trim-like wheel...yes.

Am I willing to pay twice as much for that turbo...no. Becuase I want a powerful, fun car...and I don't feel the need to set any record or have the blingin-est KA-T out there.

My cheap-o "TA34" does the job just fine...for road racing, auto-x, whatever...I have no complaints.

What are you shooting for...boost, HP level...and what other goodies are you using to get there?

Brian...You know your all about the bling factor.

Here's my take on expensive options, I'll guarentee that I can make my car go faster using the same budget as anyone else if they go with things like, GT Series turbo's, $500 boost controller, all aluminum piping etc..for the money I save, I can buy a bigger turbo, N2O and have money left over for important stuff like wide band O2 sensors and an erray of gauges.

So my take is similer to Brians, if I was rich, sure I'd buy the most expensive things, but I'd also be driving a GTR not a S14 with 135,000 miles on the motor.

I figured as much What I'm shooting for is a very reliable setup that will last a long time and produce between 240-260 whp daily with decent gas mileage, and then be able to handle around 300-320 whp for goofing around, track days, hittin the strip, whatever. I'm going to try to save up and get AEM EMS to run it...but that's being optimistic, and I may just end up with a JWT ECU and ditchign the high boost/weekend setup idea. We shall see...

If you have the extra money then I would probably opt for the BB. But I'm with orion on this one I have no complaints about my 270.

extra money, haha i wish. actually i wont be able to afford the turbo setup for quite a while, but i want to research it all in the meantime so i know what i'm talking about and I do it right the first time. I HATE having to change out parts/search for stuff at the last minute becuase stuff isn't compatible.
