Hey all,

My 02 maxima has been giving me a headache with the ride quality since I purchased new TOKICO HP BLUES for my stock springs. The car wabbles and shakes a lot. I am seriously thinking of upgrading my springs to either EIBACH, or H&R on my Tokico blues. Now I am aware that My car will be lowered a little bit which I prefer than extremely low. Also, I have bigger and wider tires which are 225/55 R17. Will my tires rub against the wall after lowering my car? And also, as the title indicates, will I get the SMOOTH, STIFF AND BOUNCY RIDE if I install the springs? THANKS GUYS   .

There are a lot of guys on here that run Tokico in some form. The tires should be fine. That's not really a big jump in size from factory, so you should be good there.

Stiff and bouncy are polar opposites. Bounciness comes from soft springs. Stiff springs reduce bounciness. Shocks like Illuminas go further to reduce bounce (which is, after all, the whole purpose of shocks).

Also keep in mind that tire choice makes a HUGE difference in ride quality...possibly even greater than spring/shock combo. For instance, the difference between my Q's summer (245-45-17 low-profile performance tires) and winter (215-65-15 tall, soft sidewall snow tires) was like night and day...but the suspension setup was the same. The summer Q was harsh but VERY tight, while the winter Q was much smoother but looser feeling. If you're looking to improve ride quality, look at your tires, too. More sidewall translates to a smoother ride at the cost of road feel and handling. But you can get a softer sidewall without changing your aspect ratio or size, too, although most low-pro tires are pretty stiff so there's not a huge amount of variance. Touring tires will provide a better ride at the cost of dry traction compared to a high performance tire.

You might want to just save some $$$ and get some Coilovers. Then you would be done.

MOD is right. :dblthumb:
I am running Tokico Illumina's with Eibach Sport's. I just got new tires/wheels but my old setup was some ebay wheel (see pics on website link in my profile/sig) with BFGoodrich KDW2's. The ride was SO freakin harsh it felt like I was ripping off the whole front end whenever I hit a bump at highway speeds. The new setup is Enkie wheels with Yokohama S.Drive's and the ride quality is night and day difference...sooo much better, yet the suspension setup never changed.

My last visit to the dealer (at 95,000miles) they told me my struts were shot - using the great comments on this forum I decided to jump in and do the Tokico Illumina/Eibach Pro-kit combo. Results... fantastic.

I don't even know what they're set to right now - just home from the installer. I drove 300 miles over the weekend and it was awful - felt like the car was floating... now it feels tight, without feeling harsh.

Thanks to all who posted on this forum, sharing their experiences.

Tom
