best spring shock combo

Whats up.
I wanted to stiffen up my car a little bit. I would put feel and performance over looks a million times over. Are there any springs out there that would do this enough? I'm under the impression that if you get aftermarket springs the stock shock can leave you with a worse handling car than when you started. I know coil overs are an option, but I read that most people don't know how to adjust them correctly including me, resulting in a worse handling car and they may be over the top. My last question is would a rear sway bar give the feel of an over all stiffer car or no?
