Hi all. after shopping around for a suspension setup.. my top choices are hks, cusco, and zeal. due to how HKS and CUSCO doesn't offer repair or rebuild on their products in US. I think Zeal(endless) is my best bet. Since they have a base in US at Huntington beach Cal. i think this will make the repair or rebuild to have a faster turn around time. coz my friend got cusco zero 2R he has them for about a year now. and he is getting pillow ball mount knocking noise and oil leak from one of the shocks. he now needs to put it back to stock and send those cusco to japan for repair. anyways.. even tho i have picked out what i want .. but i just don't know what spring rate i should order them in. they offer Street spec F6. R4-5 .. track spec F8/R6-7 .. or better yet whats the best spring rate for street/mountain pass and maybe track. i know if you have too stiff of a spring rate.. and you try to run them on mountain pass .. it will kill the shocks.. as it did to one of my friends.. so help me out here guys...?! ... is F6..F5 too soft >? what do i need?... for drivable and just stiff enough for .. road racing...

ok.. i need to make 2 things clear... 1. i don't know how a suspension upgrade is ricey? .. i mean i clearly thinks that it is a performance upgrade?! 2. stock is what i am using now.. and they are way too soft.I am NOT trying to play initial D. .. is just i commute alot and i need to get on highway 9 pretty often. if any of you live in the bay area should know highway 9 is mostly mountain pass.. kinda like highway 17 CA! and i drive a 95 SE.. due to how my suspension are too soft.. it scratches my OEM lip most of time when i make a turn on that road. I think the lip is messed up enough that ... its just a matter of time for it to crack. therefore, i just want something that can make my car handles better.. and maybe i won't get as much body roll. when i get the zeal upgrade? Nathan .. i am not trying to do any kind of dori dori here.. so stiffest won't be it.. since I need something thats drivable.

have you looked at any tein suspension products? Or if on a budget, tein springs with agx struts are a good matched combo from what Ive read

yeah, you just said driveable...yet you want coilovers? and at that, you're not even looking into something lke the APEXI world sport or TEIN FLEX systems? they're coilovers but very street friendly...soft springs, softer dampers

i've personally never driven a stock 240 so i cant tell you what good and bad is...but i have tein stech springs w/ AGX shocks, and i think it's smooth enough (my girlfriend says she's used to it) yet handles nicely (bumper w/ 3 inch clearance dosent scrape even when drifting..."drifting" heh)

I had the S.Tech/ AGX combo up untill a week ago. It's very comfortable for daily driving, but will also take the corners like a pro. I am actually selling my s.techs on ebay if you are interested. Only reason is because I got a good deal on HKS springs. the HKS's are really stiff, but hey I like the abuse.

well there are somethings that you gotta realize about suspension. its about preference. have you driven a car with those suspension settings?

my 240sx is a track only car so it isnt too comfy for the track.

thats one thing you should take into consideration. if its a dedicated track car or not.

i'd suggest TEIN's since theyre pretty inbetween the two. i havent ridden in a car with teins that i didnt like.

ok.. thanks for the replies guys.. um for TEIN which coilvers setup are u talking about? the HE, RE,RA.. or?.. i think i can afford the RE.. which i think i can spend up to 1700 or a little over that .. ... for the S. tech.. what spring rate are those in? or you can buy whatever u want?....actually i haven't been in car with Zeal, TEIN or JIC. I've been in a car with GAB.(a coilovers setup, not just soring). and those are too stiff i think... i think the spirng rate on those is 500lb... which translate to ..?something Kg/mm ?.... i;ve heard the the best spring rate for s14 240sx is F7 and R5... marshun.. what do u have on ur track only 240? in terms of spring rate

um for the mountain pass, ive seen most people have 9 or 10 kg front and 8 or 9kg on the rear. depending on front nd rear weight. have you checked the KEI OFFICE COILOVERS TYPE XR THEY ARE AROUND 1500. BUT ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT U LIKE, TEST OUT DIFFERENT SPRING RATES.

HA! That's a lot of work for a trip through the mountains. Yes, you can change them, but it's not a 5 min job.

Where do you live? I grew up in Ben Lomond, so I learned how to drive on Hwy 9 :) I used to drive to Saratoga every day for work over 9, but I still love the few miles from Felton to SC... just TRY to beat 5 min all the way to SC:D

...better yet, don't try, I should never have been so foolish. The only "accident" I have ever been in was there too, even though I didn't actually hit anything. I spun out at the rail road tracks because, well, they are slippery when you are going to fast. I ended up with my crossmember stuck on the tracks up the hill a little ways.

Oh yeah, and my spring preference is 9/7. It's pretty harsh for street driving, but you get used to it. Those who don't like it, can get out :D

spring rates on the S.Tech springs are

Front: 3.8kg/mm / 212lb/in.

changing the dampening changes the effects of the spring rate. youre not actually chaning the ACTUAL spring rate. but you are changing the characteristics. so its KINDA like chaning up the spring rates :)

but it does make a difference, thats for sure.

if you guys were to just get springs then i'd suggest some adjustable shocks. kyb agx's perhaps. and then for daily use just turn them back down to a more comfortable setting
