how much of a difference do aftermarket rims w/ low pro tires make? i have a drift 240 with stock rims that needs an extra set for the track, is it worth the extra cash to go aftermarket? 16's or 17's maybe

LOL, lowpros...

I read your question a few times and still really didn't get it. It all depends on what your worth is? anyways, aftermarket wheels offer wider and lower offsets than what you currently have.

if your gonna be drifting id say 15's cuz the tires are cheap, but if youll be autocrossing id go 15 or 16.

go with like a 16x8 and 225 or 245 sized tires

245-45-16 is what I plan to use on a 16x8 with either 15 or 0 offset

the ones I want are light too, only 17 lbs... fairly light atleast

better then some other 17x9's that weigh in at 25+lbs a piece! holy smokes

if u get a wheel too big it will just have too much traction for your power output and/or the higher weight will make it bog/not spin as easy

I laugh at people who run 225's on 9.5" wide wheels... why run such a big heavy wheel? even if it is a lighter design an 8" wide same style would be lighter..... stupid lol.. my brother used to run 275's on 8.5" wide Impala SS wheels with no sidewall buldge and a 4500lb car that handled better then my 240sx.....

to each their own

what i ment is that 16s w/ lower profile tires look nice, but im not going for looks. i will just go w/15's if they will preform as well or even better.

in my honest opinion, 17's are perfect for an s13. Depending on how you make your wheels look (offset and tire selection), they fill the wheel wells waay better than 15's and 16's do. Find pictures of s13's with 15" wheels and compare them to ones with 17" wheels, and you'll see how much off an aesthetic difference it makes. 15's are small imo. When you start to add aero parts (aftermarket bumpers, sideskirts, or lips), a lot of people tend to go into the 18" category... but lets keep that look for a later time

As far as performance goes, it depends what type of performance you're looking to get. Obviously, you wont be drag racing with 17's... but as far as sidewalls go, the stiffer, the better for drifting... etc. It really all depends on what you're planning to do.

however 15's and 16's are more preferred for drifting only due to the fact that tires are cheaper in those sizes.

16" > 15"

get 16x8 +10

I would say 17in is best for a race s13. not to heavy, but enables thinner sidwalls. last years SCCA 240 champian ran 17in wheels.

The only reason i have stuck with 16 is because of the glutton of 16in tires i have in my garage, I have 4 sets of 16in rims/tires

I run a staggered 16x7 in front and 16x8 in the rear with 225/50/16 all around. the 225 on the front have bulging sidewalls, and lead to a heavier feeling up front in turns. I believe i can improve on this. Next season I think im going to try a running 16x7 all around with 205/4516's because im going to a skinnier tire i will probably drop my street tires and get somthign below 140 treadwear. I will also have less bulge sidewalls, and smaller radius tires. - This all leads to less weight, and theoritcal better acceleration from the smaller radius, without sacrificing to much grib because of the upgrade in tires... anyway its somthing im looking forward to experimenting with next season.
