Hey guys I was searching around the archives and what not and couldnt find anyone talking about engine rebuilders in Sacramento. I have a 89 coupe with about 200k on the clock. I havent got a chance to run a compression check on the engine since the car is torn apart pretty well recieving some much needed restoration. I know that the synchros are pretty much shot and the engine doesnt feel quite as strong as my friends old ka24e, but i havent gotten a chance to drive it in several months. I was looking into rebuilding my the engine i got in it instad of going through the hassle of finding and swapping in a ka24de. I was looking at getting pretty much a stock rebuild and using one of the kits from flatlanderacing.com. Anybody know of any reputable shops that can get it done in a timely manner that arent necessarily the cheapest, but also arent raping people in the *** on the price? Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

why don't you just swap in a DE. I live 30 minutes north of sac and just picked up a project 92 coupe. I will be rebuilding mine by myself.

The main reason is because it will be getting the IAP stage 1+ kit after the rebuild and i would prefer the sohc just for the fact its in the car already and i would prefer to turbo the sohc over the dohc. I might just have to start calling around because most people will just throw in an sr or a dohc if their motor is going down the tubes , no love for the sohc haha.

for the price of a rebuild, u can just get a good ol' DOHC and drop it in. trust me, if you are gonna do a rebuild, you might as well do forged goodies

in a matter of fact, what exactly are you going to do for your "rebuild"?

Well as far as the rebuild goes i was probably going to keep it somewhat mild because i dont plan to really boost more than 12-14 psi, but whoever plans on sticking to a set amount of boost anyways?? I was thinking of getting ARP rod bearings and head studs, have the head decked and the block hot tanked. .020 over pistons, possibly forged i will have to see depending on what the cost of the rebuild is. I dont plan on doing anything really to the head. I have a friend that can sell me his 96 DOHC and transmission for $350, but that is with no wiring harness and no ecu which is ok since i would be needing the 91-94 ecu and harness. I figure with all the trouble of tracking down thing like the intake manifold and those other things i would just get a nice fresh rebuild on my SOHC since at this point im not too tight on money. Any suggestions let me know though. I appreciate the help!
