Best replacement for keyless remote key fob?

Hi,

I have a 1999.5 Pathfinder LE V6 (basically a QX4), whose keyless remote has slowly stopped working and now requires several hard pushes to work at all. I've replaced the battery, cleaned the contacts, etc. but it doesn't help. I don't even use it anymore, but I miss it and I'd like to replace it.

although I'm not too sure about buying a used key fob if a used one has the same problem as mine. How would I know? According to another poster, it's due to the frequency drifting over years of use, so how is replacing it with a used one going to help?

On eBay, they have used and new ones - new ones are $100!

Isn't there some aftermarket key fob that can do the job?

I just found my replacements at http://www.autotransponder.com/. Granted I only needed the shells for mine since my internals were fully functional, they do sell the complete transponders that can learn your code for a heckuva lot cheaper than $100.

Thanks - I checked out that link. The cheapest one is $78, used. New ones are $106. I wish there were some other way than dropping a Benjamin.

My apologies....I didn't even check the website for your particular model and assumed it would be as cheap or cheaper than mine (2002 Qx4). The complete programmable transponder for my particular vehicle is only $39 and is found here http://www.autotransponder.com/2002_inf ... _kbrastu15. I wounder what the difference is?

I just picked up an '01 QX4 with no keyfobs. Not quite clear on how to order one that is guaranteed to be compatible with the truck. Can you point me in the right direction for figuring that out? Thanks!

Thanks! That gave me exactly what I needed. Unfortunately it also tells me I grabbed the wrong one on eBay before I discovered there was more than one type. Oh well, easy enough to sell it...
