I just brought a 2011 Nissan 370z with 36k miles. Sorry if this is a repeat but I have to ask. I would like to know what is the best recommended oil and oil filter for this car? What brand should i go with, what kind of weight and should i put in conventional oil or synthetic oil? I am not sure what oil is in the car know. I only owned a few Ae86 in my life so where talking about a 29 year old car. This Z is my first new car so the best suggestions would help.

Thank you

So you went from one Japanese icon to another, congratulation on your new acquisition! Did you keep the Hachi? You should start a thread over in the 350/370Z General section and introduce yourself and your car(s).

Nissan recommends 5W30 for the VQ series engines, I'm pretty sure they recommend it for just about everything in their lineup. Any top quality oil will be fine in your Z; Mobil 1, Castrol Edge or Penzoil Platinum. You could step a little off spec and go with Castrol 0W30 (commonly referred to as GC - German Castrol as it's made in Germany). If you're in a cold climate it will help get the oil flowing a little quicker when it's really cold out.

Since the car isn't completely new, but new to you something you might want to consider is using whatever oil you want and then have an oil analysis done, most people I know have used Blackstone Labs with great results.

If you're running a decent oil change interval (OCI) any oil will be fine, synthetics really shine if you tend to let your car go longer between changes. What I always tell people to do is to use a top quality filter, I'd say Bosch or Wix. And because the 370Z has had some issues with going into limp mode when the engine oil starts to overheat if you're planning on driving the Z on the track or wringing it out in the hills you'll want to plan on putting in an oil cooler to avoid any issues.

Welcome to NICO! :badger
