So every time you hear 'radar' people think, escort/cobra, right!

Well a lot of research later you will soon find out that the new Escort Passport 9500xi with GPS/Internet ready among tons of other things will be the best bang for your buck.

I just picked this doozy up and cannot wait till it gets to the house.

Price a little steep, but hell, i'm 23, i'm sure I'll have more tickets, and i've already paid about $2000-$2500 in them, so I figured I can try this out and see how it goes.

It is not cordless so I will be running a little bit of wire to get the max exposure and distance with this device.

Yes, everyone talks about how nice the V1 is and how long of a user they are of that radar. People are seeing this 9500ix as an upgrade to the V1.

I don't think the word best means what you think it means.

2009 Guys of LIDAR Radar Detctor Test

The only real weakness the V1 shows is in picking up off-axis Ka 35.5. Before you go using the GPS lockout feature on your ix you should do some Googling and see some of the bad results, a few are also on Youtube. Then there's Escort's inability to pickup QT (quick-trigger) shots (not to mention the company's failure to even address it), might want to do some searching on that too....PLENTY of that on Youtube.

The ix is a decent detector, and better than most of the crap I usually see strapped up on windshields, but it's certianly not the best detector available...it's not even the best window mount available, not even the best one from Escort - that would be the Redline.

If you're talking about the STi Driver (window mount), that would be my first choice for a stealth detector until Escort gets the Redline and the quick trigger sorted out, the Redline does have outstanding sensitivity though. I live 20 minutes from the VA border so one might get added to my lineup eventually. I'd love either an Escort 9500ci or the new Bel STi-r installed but they're a bundle and you don't have the advantage of moving from vehicle to vehicle (key if you travel and use rentals a lot).

I really do wish that Bel & Escort would improve their i/o & qt reactions...it's their Achilles Heel. I've seen i/o used pretty extensively in the last year or so in my area where previously it wasn't around much at all. My only reservations about adding another detector is that laser is more and more prevalent and I should address that before adding a backup for a device that I already have.

People still use radar detectors? People still get speeding tickets? I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in years and I generally average 15-20 MPH over the speed limit in both my ungodly loud car and my big a** white work van. I think the last speeding ticket I got was in 07 and that was in Jacksonville NC in a rental car. I don't have a radar detector, never have, just have the common sense of when I can and can't speed, plus I've developed a sort of "spidey sense" of when cops are around.

Except in a work zone or school zone Pennsylvania doesn't allow radar or laser tickets for less than 6 over the limit (or less than 11 over a limit less than 55 MPH), and only State Police can use radar or laser. They also have to use it in stationary/parked mode...I can't see how they ever issue any tickets there.

Or, maybe you're just special. If that's the case you can get rid of your white van and enjoy your new ride...

:poke:

Hope your spidey sense tells you not to speed in work zones. More than 11 over in one and it's a mandatory suspension. ;)

I drive faster than I should and the only ticket I've ever gotten was from a mobile speed camera van, strategically placed next to a field of bushes. :gapteeth:

The money wasted on that radar detector can be spent on two tickets!

.......Or you could just not speed in the first place.

If you're agreeing with 89 I'm wondering why you picked up a detector at all.

In any case, congrats on the STi purchase. It's a great detector since Bel fixed the Ka 33.8 issue.

If you've got the Homelink enabled mirror on your Z all you need is a Stealth Cord.
