How'd he tune the d21 ecm? Did you swap it with a Stanza or something?

Did he happen to keep the files? I have a Stanza ecm waiting on my bookshelf, socketed and chipped.

So if i bought a stanza ecm, it would work on my truck, but I would have to get it tuned to give my truck more power?
Who would i get it tuned by?
Also, does this "mod" still allow the obd to work properly?
And, does this work with a 97 HB 2.4l 4WD?
Thanks for the info.

There's a lot to this topic. eccs.hybridka.com has all the info. I gathered all the parts but haven't installed them as I haven't grown the balls to do it yet. I has to be a Stanza ECM from 91-92. Manual preferred but not required. You will also need to snip off the consult port and get some extra ecm terminal pins to add to the main harness. This is where I am at. What I did differently was I went with a jmhalder NVSRAM setup so my laptop becomes the EPROM, I will be able to modify settings while driving or dynoing the truck. The info out there is complex and scattered so good luck if you go this route.

Sounds too complicated for me. I want more power, and if it was semi-stock I'd be all for it. Just too many unknowns. If the company sold ready to install units with directions I'd jump on it.

They also sell intake kits on 4x4parts,com (just the intake, not a complete manifold). I don't know what kind of gain you might see, I plan on getting one soon though.

The other thing you could do is get a different ring and pinion for your diff.

the CIA for the trucks i belive is actually less power than running an open air filter on top of the TB, im running a k&n and noticed a little gain from it

The KA24E is going to be a KA24E unless you get intensive with everything; and it is only 2.4 liters, so it will need a turbo to have any significant torque gains. You could build an essentially lag-free boost setup if you wanted to, for truck duties, and that seems like it would work pretty good.

As for that open filter, I ran that for about a year. It flowed good and didn't pull as hot of air as you might think as long as you were travelling along with fresh air passing into the engine compartment; but it was louder than stock. I could hear my injectors firing, and coupled with my new cheapo glasspack the cruising speed drone was intensified to where it was downright unpleasant on 50 mile highway trips. I reconnected all my stock intake tubing/intake resonator so the frequencies from the glasspack don't amplify themselves with the intake frequencies--at least not as much.

I just went and ordered the intake from 4x4 parts. I will let you all know how it works in a few weeks.

One benefit of that intake is that it comes with a metal box that bolts down to the throttle body. It looks like that can be used to connect the charge pipe for forced induction in the future, but i am not sure how strong it is until I actually get it.
