Hey all. New here.. but not so new into the world of Nissan. It has been a dream of mine to create a silvia just like the ones in japan. (read this months Sport Compact Car, and look at the owner of Feast Tuning's S13.. thats what im after) Anyways.. i have saved up around 10 grand and i am looking to do a conversion as soon as i buy the car. But what would be the best platform to start with? Im kinda confused to be honest.. and have been reasearching now for over 3 weeks and need to shed some light on this. i have already come to conclusion.. that best bet motor wise is the Red-top S13. Now.. weight/performance/ parts availability wise.. would the S13 hatch be the way to go? or the S13 coupe? maybe an S14.. this is what is killing me. i love the looks of all the models.. but i am building this not to look all flashy.. its going to be a pure bred performance car. i am thinking of the S13 coupe right now and do the JDM front end conversion also.. any one care to help me out here? Also.. if any of you are in the miami/ft lauderdale FL area.. has there been any reputable shops you go to? i just moved down here as well.. and need all the info i can get. Sorry for the long post, and thank you very much in advance.

My personal opinion. Don't do something that is just a copy of japan...do somethign a lot of other people don't have...say...an s13 hatchback..strawberry face conversion(that means you put s15 headlights panels bumper and hood on the fron)...and a ca18det engine...everyone and their sister has an sr20 nowadays :)

Yea i am intriqued my the whole strawberry face... i just might do something like that.. and i was thinking about maybe a CA18DET.. but hows the power holding capacity of the engine.. we all know how overbuilt the SR20 is.. so that was my reason for the SR.. but hey the more unique i can be.. thats the way i will move ;)

Good call about the Strawberry face 180, but that has been done as well. In my opinion the S13 coupe looks better, and should be stronger (due to the extra weld in back) and a little lighter. I've saved up around the same (10K) and have been planning the same thing, crazy speed, crappy interior, and huge fender flares would be the only cosmetic addition. but have chosen the S13 coupe, and either SR motor, or the RB motor, due to the excellent supply of crazy Japanese parts.

If I was gonna do any conversion to my car, they way I would go is the s13-->s15 conversion. I think that is the best conversion out there.

your probably better off with the coupe as far as a rigid chasis...however top drifters in japan alway go for the fastback (prolly for looks)

with $10k your better off going with the S-13 also, leaving more money for parts.

the 15-80 has been done many times (there's more than one manufactuer of the kit) but it is still very nice looking.you'll be hard pressed to find anything that no one else has done or is doing. so go with what you like most, after all you car should be about you and not everyone else

good luck:cool:

yea, do what you personally like best. If i was going to build a silvia i would choose the s13 because everyone has to admit... respect the old school. With that much money you should be able to drop a RB25DET in it and have a little left over. I love the S15 and all but i think the s15 heads wouldent look as clean as the s13 heads on the car they were designed for. Or you could always do a Sil-Eighty which is basically the front half of a Silvia and the rear half of a 180sx (240sx hatchback). lemme know if you ever need any technical info aim: KhaosDefcon

Coupe is more rigid.S13s are cheaper and lighter.CA18dets are cheaper the SRs and can take more power on stock internals.Get a Silvia front clip with body panels. That will cover engine and front end changeover.

IMO S15 conversion is played already, it doesn't even look that great on an S13, I think the S13 conversion looks MUCH better. Plus its a good chunk of change.

Sweet thanx so much for all the great info guys. I have decided to go with my original plan and just make one hell of a nasty fast S13 Coupe (if i can find one... seems to be a rare one) With the JDM front end, and fender flares... paint it one solid color and thats it. If i cant find the coupe i can always go with the Hatch.. nothing wrong with it =) plus they are very abundant. excellent.. thanx again!
