Hey guys where do most of you guys mount your egt sensor? I was thinking about mounting it onto the stock manifold or the o2 extension piece, but they may be cast iron and I know cast iron would crack or break when trying to drill a hole or something on it. Also did you guys drill the hole yourself or had a shop do it? Just checking on my options!

Also this is a stupid question to ask, but the dual gauge that I bought also has a boost pressure sensor and it shows two ways to mount it...1: it says to mount onto the intake manifold and 2: it says to mount onto the intercooler or intercooler pipings. I think it's impossible to mount it onto the intake manifold so do you think it's possible to mount it onto the intercooler piping instead?

boost gauge- "The vacuum lines are simple: 3 lines start at the throttle body. The bottom one goes to the canister, block it off unless you are using the canister. The larger one on top runs to the bypass valve (BOV). The smaller top line tees to the fuel pressure regulator, and runs across the front of the engine to your boost gauge or the boost pressure port on your boost controller. "

taken from ht, maybe it helps.

Does anyone have a picture they can post of their sensor on a SR manifold?

Thanks, but it's not as easy as vacuum lines. There's a boost pressure sensor that came with my SPA Dual Digital Boost/EGT gauge and it's the size of an injector. I'm suppose to tap it into the intercooler system or onto the intake manifold. Just gotta figure out which way is going to be easier or correct.

I thought that the 4th runner was the one that run the hottest out of the 4? My theory would be probably mounting it somewhere where it can read all 4 cylinders? I know if I mount it like that it can read temps off by a couple hundred degrees though.

Know what the collector is?

well you'd want to know the highest temperature vs the lowest....sure you can mount it even in the downpipe, but then its not actually the temp coming out of the head,ya know...some people do that, but remember then your 'warning' temps will be lower, since the 'actual' temp you want to be monitoring is cooled down by that point.

to clear that up a little more....would u want the 'average' or would you want to know the hottest?

Just to further expand on what I H8 is saying; you monitor your EGT to keep from melting your pistons. Therefore, you want to take the temperature reading as close to the pistons as possible. Also, it makes sense to take the reading from the point that will get the hottest.

Just wondering what is a normal EGT... what should it run at?

Thanks I H8 and Phax. I guess #4 runner it will be. And I just really thought about it and you guys are correct. I'd rather not measure an average on all 4 when I can measure the #4 runner since it does run the hottest so I know when that ones about to melt. Something like that...I know what I'm talking about I just can't explain it clearly! Thanks again!:ylsuper Anymore suggestions will also be great though as I would like to hear the good and bad to everything. :D

Thanks Buud, but like I said it's not like a regular boost gauge that uses vacuum lines. It's a huge probe about the size of an injector...just a bit thinner and longer in size/length. It needs to be tapped and then bolted onto a boost source.

The above link is a SPA boost/egt gauge install on an turbocharged M3. I was looking at the boost pressure sensor installation and I don't think I can find a good spot to mount the boost sensor on the intake manifold. Needs to be mounted on a flat surface.
