As stated I am looking for the best place to get FWD CA18DET. A buddy of mine wants to slip one in his Geo Prism. Any ideas how that would work? He wanted to rebuild a blown stock prism motor, but I convinced him CA was the way to go because he wanted to stick with 1.8 liter.

Any one hear of anything like this, and how difficult the swap would as far as mounts and such?

Thanks : DDan

Im not too sure how the swap would work since im not familiar with a geo, but I picked up my FWD/AWD CA18DET from a guy by the name of Rafic. He's on this board and his alias is PulsarGTR. It cost me about $1500 and let me tell you it's worth every penny..... Infact, if you look a few posts up, it'll tell you who you can buy the engines from. The post is stickied.. No worries though.

As far as the engine mounts go, you'll prolly want CA mounts... I have the rear transmission mount but that's it... If you can go to your local junk yard and grab the Right engine mount and a Left transmission mount (and a rear transmission mount while youre there) from any 1987 Nissan Pulsar NX SE or a 1988 Nissan Pulsar NX SE you're set. Then its just a matter of mounting them to the car.

If the engine will even fit inside the car, im not sure of that, but it'll be a tedious task. Then finding axles that'll work and swapping hubs and the whole bit... It's worth a shot I guess but it's no walk in the park, let me tell you that.

Tell your buddy to go get him a 4AGZE or something in the Toyota family because the FWD platforms is nowhere near as user-friendly as the RWD platform. The amount of headache will not be worth the minimal gain and he will have to have custom axles made (Just too expensive). We own a 2000 prism and as well as my sister owning the older corolla and it is just not worth the headache. He'll come out better putting a 2jz in that car before starting to screw with the AWD/FWD CA18DET.

Dee beat me too it. Toyota built all of the Geo motors, and I would think a Toyota motor would be a much easier swap.
