i'm planning on doing a ca swap into my coupe in the spring or early summer of next year, and i want to start planning. All i want to do for now is a stock swap with the stock ic and all that, unless i run into a surge of money, then i'll get a bov, fmic or whatever. of course i plan on replacing any seals etc that should be changed while i have the motor out and its easy to get to and all. I will be doing this in my front driveway and will not have access to air tools, it will have to be done with hand tools which i have plenty of. i am going to rent a cherry picker and anything else big i need from somewhere also.

my question is: in my situation, would it be more cost effective to get a clip or a motorset? and where is the best place to buy one of them as of RIGHT NOW. i searched back to about a month ago and couldnt find that information. thanks for the input.

well i say if your car is running fine and nothing wrong with it... just the motorset itself is good enough. but if you wanna make sure you have every part you need for the swap a front clip is perfect :D and there is a CA buy/sell/trade sticky thread at the top of the page look there, or you can PM boost_boy since he is the CA18 Master :D

basically,Dee (boostboy) - mostly motorsetsRafi (pulsar_gtr) - mostly motorsetsJhot - clips and/or motorsetsJarco - clips and/or motorsets

front clips can be a considerable amount of extra work - shipping, getting it off the truck, getting it to where you want it, taking the motor out, stripping it, cutting it up/disposing of it. You'll also pay a considerable amount more and all that you will really be getting is the intercooler piping and maybe some misc stuff (powersteering lines, resivoir, radiator, misc hoses, etc.) there's a good chance that its not really worth the extra money.

motorsets, you kind of have to worry about not getting everything you want, but the suppliers are pretty good about making sure you get what is needed to make it run. cheaper cost, cheaper shipping, easier shipping, less clean up means more money for misc stuff like stock intercooler/piping etc. that can be found for relatively cheap online. There's also the issue of packaging and dented oil pans/broken pieces, but the dented pan isn't too big a deal and you can be in contact with your supplier/shipper about any defects.

personally, i'd say you're better off going w/ a motorset, but thats just my 2cents

But wouldnt it be better to have everything right there rather than trying to piece/track things down?

Like for me, I dont have the space to store a motor let alone a clip. So I'd have to get the clip shipped directly to the shop and I wouldnt have time to find this and that. I also want a stock install cause I wont have the money at first to install a FMIC.

I guess it kinda depends on whats included in the motorset.
