Ive done 2 of my friends 240 hatchs, and ive put the battery in the dead center behind the rear seat.

In my coupe, i put it in the drives side corner of the trunk.

The hatches have more space to fit a drill in the box with out anything being in the way, so you can put the battery anywhere except over the gas tank :rolleyes

On the coupe, your pretty much forced to put it in that corner where the jack is.

for weight distribution purposes, you would like to have it on the rear axle and as much as possible. so in other words, NOT in the corner of the trunk. above the differential would be the best place IMO.

well if your THAT worried about weight distribution, then why dont you take out all of the seats and move the driver seat to the middle?

because putting the seats in the middle would be more work then just bolting a battery... think about dash, steering wheel, shifter.. radio.. passengers... new roll cages... c'mon now... reasonable comments... appreciated but not expected... heheh

actually, an extra 45 lbs. on the rear axle WOULD help with traction a lot, and putting it in the corner could possible make traction worse, so you don't make sense. it's just a matter of putting it in the middle or the corner, i pick middle.

not to hijack the thread but do you plan on running the wires to the battery inside the car or outside?

Mine is beside the passenger strut tower, just back enough to avoid the strut tower brace. The wires are run inside the car.

red240ne, I understand what you're saying about putting the battery over the halfshaft/differential to help out traction, but why not put it in the right rear corner to help offset the weight of the driver? That seems to me to be the best way to do it.

nooo, you wanna run the wires outside of the car, under it.

for drag racing purposes, i still just say to put the battery directly over the rear axle. i would think that putting the battery in the back of the trunk would hurt traction more than anything. if you've ever tried drag racing a 240, then you would understand how much it would help to get as much traction as possible. It feels like the rear is extremely loose and the weight isn't transferred from front to rear quickly enough. i just say why not do the obvious and put it on the axle.

yep, putting the weight as directly over the axles as possible is the way to go. If the weight is instead put as far back as possible the car will become upset during hard cornering due to a pendulum effect.
