This seems to be a very general question so I assume it has probably been asked before. I've tried searching but couldn't find anything on it, so please forgive me if this has been discuseed before.

I have an iPhone which I use to play my music from in the car. In my last car, the AUX port was right next to a small cubby space under the radio/climate controls (very similar to the one in the AC except smaller making it perfect for a phone/iPod), which was perfect because the cord never got in the way. I find the AUX port is placed in a very awkward spot in the AC considering that it can get in the way of the shifter. I had a spiral cord in my last car that coiled up and extended when you needed it, so I didn't have to worry about it getting tangled/knotted up. Bringing this cord into my AC doesn't really work out. Since the cord isn't too long and the AUX port being so high up, the second I would pick up my phone to change the song or answer a call, it would get disconnected and switch to the radio, so I had to resort to a normal AUX cord. I leave my phone in the cubby space, which is not a bad spot, but I just wish it wasn't so deep so I wouldn't have to reach so far to get it (#firstworldproblems). But now the cord tends to get wrapped around the shifter which can get in the way, especially since mine is 6 speed.

So, my question is, are there any mounts out there that work well with our cars? Or has anyone built a custom mount for the car, etc. I would like to stay away from the windshield mounts. Also, if anyone has re-routed the AUX port to get connected from the inside of the cubby space or something similar. This isn't a big issue for me really, I can live with how it is currently, but I'm just curious to see what is out there and what other people have done.

Thanks

When I had my aftermarket headunit installed, I just had the cable put into the cubby below the climate control. In retrospect, I wish I would have put it in my glovebox so I could lock it, but oh wells.

I am not familiar with the head unit in your car, but you may want to research to see if there is an AUX jack on the back of it. If so, I'd route a cable under the console to the center cubby like the newer units.

If not, your best bet might be getting a right-angle plug cable (to easily clear the shifter) and a floor mount-

Something like this? Yes it is for a tablet, but you get the idea...

get one of those sticky pads that you put on your dashboard and put your phone up there so your AUX cord isn't hanging down
