I purchased my glasses from a local retailer (no name really) because they were the only local place that sold Oakley perscription glasses (I really wanted a frame that Oakely made).

VSP (vision service plan) footed the vast majority of the bill. For a $250 frame and anti glare/scratch polycarb lenses, I ended up paying $90 out of pocket.

Check with your health care provider to double check if you have vision coverage - the vast majority do. If you don't get a frame discount, you at least do get something off of the lenses. You can always buy your own frame and then have your eye doctor have the lenses made.

There are Record Retention Requirements in every state. The shortest I ever heard of was 3 years. Some states require the records be kept for the "recipients lifetime". In short, the eye glasses delivered are "filling" a Dr's written prescription and fall into a lot of the same regulations that drug prescription/pharmacies do.

There's a real good chance they couldn't find her records, because the wrong number was used (typo, unwilling to give, used a bogus one, etc) or similar situation.

I'll almost guarantee, there was a simple name/address/phone # mismatch between the purchase entry and the return "search". As they say GIGO.

Ah ok. My question was more in regards to why a place like LC/Pearle/ForEyes would have a record of the glasses you bought and the prescription used when I was told that such places aren't allowed to make you glasses if the prescription is older than 2 yrs.

i've always gone to lense crafters, they're expensive though. i just recently purchase a new pair from the lense crafter here in michigan, 1 girl was somewhat knowledgeable, i caught her in the act of bull s*** when i asked her technical questions, one girl was in training that didn't know chit, another girl there was just a party girl who i ended up getting her number. my doctor was a douche. but the glasses was good, they have a lab there which means they can make the glasses there and not having to wait 2 weeks for them.

Had a really great experience at LC today. The doctor was patient, funny, and experienced, unlike the lady at Wal-Mart several years ago who simply plowed through the optics without giving me enough time to decide. The girl who helped me choose my frames knew a LOT about facial structure, symmetry, and style. I was genuinely impressed.

Got a nice pair of Versace frames on hold until Keith's coupon arrives. Thanks again!!!! And even without the friends discount, they're still doing 30% off everything, so it ends up being more than Costco (I checked there too, not much selection but awesome prices) but the service and care make it completely worth it.

So, its official: I <3 LC

I officially converted to Lens Crafters a couple of years ago, every experience I've had has been as pleasant as you just described. I am also convinced that paying a little more for glasses isn't necessarily a bad move. My mother has a flex account that we seldom use, so I can generally afford to get some of the higher-dollar frames. I currently have a pair of Ray-Ban frames that are amazing. When I wrecked my car a couple of years ago, they flew out my window (I was doing about 55-60mph) and landed about 100 ft down the road. They received a few scratches along the top of the frame, but other than that, they were unscathed.

Ahhh. It varies from state to state, but an eye glass prescription has an "expiration date". Though not all states require them, and not all Dr's will not them on the Rx form. Though some have it pre-printed on the forms. The reason they keep the "documents" is for other state mandated legal purposes and "service after the fact". It's also a helpful tool in diagnosing an issue with a new pair of eye glasses when you know the Rx, lens material and type and fitting measurements of the previous eye wear.

I was wondering what ever happened? Was your Rx with the Lens/Treatments you wanted a Special order?

You look like a satisfied customer :)

VERY satisfied. They fit my face incredibly well. No adjustments needed.

They were indeed special order. Anything more than 10-12 inches away is blurry to me.
