I know of Heavy Throttle and Unstable-Hybrids, but I would like some opinions from those with experience and also of any other reliable shops that will perform the SR20 swap. Any input is welcome.

I will be opening a shop that will be performing swaps in the next month, I'll also be providing engines. My SR20DET S13 redtops will be 2200, and my labor install on them will be 1000. I am reputable, you can ask around. : ) Unfortunately I"m located in Iowa, I'm probably about as close as Unstable is to you. Both Unstable and Heavy Throttle are great shops. : )

Would there be any advantage to putting an S14 SR20 instead of an S13 SR20 if I have an upgraded turbo already on my KA that I will use on the SR?

I'm not 100% sure what you're saying, heres my guess.

You have a KA-T and you want to use the Turbo on a SR20.

If the above is true, it will not work, they use different manifolds, and chances are you have a T3/T4 or T4 on your KA, and the SR20 manifold uses a T25 flange.

The advantages to using the S14 are the better turbo and cams, equating to an extra 22 or so stock horsepower. That, and its a newer engine, its also easier to put into a S14 chasis wiring wise. Other than that, they're pretty much the same.

That's what I was saying, yes. I want to use my HKS GT series turbo on the SR. I know that it is not a direct bolt-on, but wanted to know what other advantages there were besides the ball-bearing turbo. That small increase in horespower is negligible considering I already have a FMIC and bigger turbo and injectors, but the wiring is something I didn't know of.

Do you think that the difference in cost would be worth it just for better cams and ease of install? But, since I won't be installing it myself, should I even worry about that? If there will be any reliablility issues from installing the S13 SR in to an S14, I would rather use the S14 motor.

There are no reliability issues, and if you are having someone else install it the wiring is not a concern either. : )

I would say buy the S13 SR since you already have the other stuff. Also, which GT series turbo do you have? any of the 25 series bolt on, if you have a 3037 you need a new manifold though. Although the turbos are worth it. : )

Ok you said 2200 for the engine and 1000 for labour

but waht does "engine" mean

i still gotta get ahold of a BOV downpipe fuel pump and FMIC right?

The engine is 100% complete, including the transmission, ecu, uncut wiring harness, and the stock IC and plumbing, everything.

You don't need a BOV, you can get one if you like. I would suggest the fuel pump, they're only 129 dollars. You will need a downpipe, I will be offering one for about 100 dollars, or you can get a greddy or blitz ranging from like 120-200 dollars. You don't need a FMIC, as it comes with the stock unit, but I would suggest an FMIC if you want to do anything above stock boost. : )

I'm wanting to get my swap underway as soon as possible, and you obviously have the best prices, but I would like to know how many swaps you've participated in before committing. Also, I am wondering if your labor costs would include swapping my injectors, FMIC, and turbo, and any aftermarket parts I would purchase through you.

As of now, Unstable Hybrids is my first choice due to their proximity and prices, but I need to have confidence that your work would be equal to theirs.

Going back to our earlier posts, I do have the GT 3037 and would like to know how much the new manifold would cost and what options are available.

We did have a lengthy conversation, but I think I got about everything I wanted to know. I feel a lot better now. I'm still tempted to go with an S14 motor, but I'll let you know as soon as possible.

How much would an s-14 full setup cost? There is a local shop around me that has an s-14 engine and tranny for 2000. Not sure if that inculdes everything though.

Um, you'll need a lot more than that to get to 18 psi. You shouldn't need a rebuild, but you'll need basically every bolt on under the sun.

Daunttless: Nice to see another Iowan on the board (a mod, no less). I'm from Decorah, where are you located? I'm currently looking for an S14 as my project car... I have a dealer checking auctions for me, and I'm checking whatever classifieds I can find. Should you see a S14 around $5-6k, probably a '95-96 SE, within a day's drive let me know. :) You may have a customer in the future as I'm considering an SR swap once I actually find a car, and take care of wheels, tires, and short shifter which will I feel will be mandatory.
