What pedals are good for the heel-toe manuever for S14s? What do you guys have on your S14s and tell me some pros and cons.

Well...I am leaning towards the Sparco "GRIP" pedals. They are $49 for a set (from optauto.com).

Why do you need special pedals to heel-toe?

You don't, but it makes it easier. My biggest problem is there is not enough room to turn my foot sideways. No pedals are going to change that. Maybe if I had driving shoes it might be different.

Stock pedals will do the trick.. but cool pedals are more fun, right? Also, you don`t necessarily have to turn your foot sideways.. you can just place your foot so that you can work the brakes with the left side and blip the throttle with the right side.

Actually, that is supposed to be the best way to heel-toe. Use the ball of your foot on the brake, keep your heel planted on the floor and blip with the right side of your foot by pushing your right knee towards the center console. Keeping your heel planted helps to have more control over prake modulation and blipping the throttle by moving the knee keeps the blips more consistent. And this technique is where pedals with heel and toe plates can help. Especially since the gas and brake are relatively far apart in the 240. I've driven other cars where I can heel toe quite easily, but the 240, I have a modfied technique since my feet aren't very wide.

I guess I have narrow feet, but I can heel and toe easily with the stock pedals. Pong described how I do it in my S-13.

This is a little off topic but I just have to say that one of the worst cars to heel 'n toe in is a Mercury Mystique, Ford Contour, Cougar. Those cars are bitchy but I still like them. s'all :sleep

I also have these for my 5 speed (91 though)... they're great. Had them for a year and a half, absolutely NO WEAR unlike the cheaper ones you can get from Wal-mart or where ever. The ones i bought come straight from japan and dont even have english instructions (who needs them?). Very good pedals IMO.

c-kwik hit the nail on the head. stock pedals work fine and are great for practice to master the technique before you buy aftermarket pedals. brake with the ball of your right foot on the brake pedal. have your right foot heel planted at an angle so you can hit the gas pedal with the outer side of your right foot. now when you are matching revs, brake with the ball of your foot and push your right knee down towards the dash and your foot should roll onto the gas and match the revs. Time this with your double clutching and you're all set. you will find that as you start braking harder and harder into your turns and get into really agressive heel-toe that the planted heel of you right foot will start coming off the ground more, but this is a little bit more advanced and takes more control. Of course practice makes perfect with heel-toe. also find a cheap pair of athletic shoes with the thinnest soles possible as they will allow you better feel on the pedals (i use a pair of oldschool pumas that are a half size too small, so the fit is tight, but gives you great feel). Don't really know what size your feet are or how wide, but I am a size 11 with normal width i guess and ive never had a problem heel-toeing using stock pedals in any car. Just some cars brake pedal and gas pedal feels are different, so that takes a little time to adjust to the feel, but once the technique is down it's a lot easier to adjust to different cars quickly. hope this helps!

I do not think i have been in a car yet that i couldn't heel toe. Heel toemakes can make driving much smoother is you are good. I think i could have a cup of water somewhere insided the car and I wouldn't spill it. I hate driving with bad manual trans drivers , i feel like it is going to snap my neck.

i drive bare foot a lot of the time. i also have much different foot placement then you guys are talking about. i use my heel on the brake and the ball of my foot on the gas. i don't think that pedals are going to make any differance.

come on guys you know that with the after market pedals, heal toes are as easy as turning the wheel of the car. LOL and they also give you extra turing power and like 50 more hp. LOL
