Hi everyone.

I'm new to the Nissan world, but I entered in with my weapon of choice... I just picked up a 1989 240SX Coupe that has a new, built RB26DETT. I took the car to McKinney's in Murrieta, CA before I paid for the car and Mac gave it a clean bill of health. The motor has 90 psi compression across the board on the first crank.

I'll be posting pics/specs/etc. here in the next week. The car is way too awesome!!!

Anyways, the previous owner recommended that I use Mobil 1 Synthetic 10W30, but from what I've been reading, the Nissan Genuine 7.5W30 is a bit better. Any thoughts or recommendations from those in the know?

I figured I would ask before I begin my relationship with the new car. Thanks!!

90 psi is about half of what it should be, rb's are generally 150-180.

i ran mobil 1 in my 25 for years and never had a problem. i would only run a mobil 1, royal purple or redline in it. since your local and have to deal with 120 degree temps, you might want to consider a 40 weight, 5-40, 10-40, something like that. higher temps like where we live are hell on engines.

invest in a GOOD water temp gauge, and a GOOD oil pressure gauge.

welcome to nico.

Indeed, it has the following compression per cylinder:

1- 1502- 1503- 1504- 1555- 1486- 150

To gather these numbers, the motor is cranked 5+ times. Most RB's have 60psi on the first crank, though.

Cool, I've run Mobil1 in other cars of mine and it does very well.

Forgot to ask...

What is max water temp for this motor? I've got a good set of gauges (both water and oil pressure, and a readout from the Power FC Commander). I don't plan on driving the car in this heat... she is in too good of shape and I'm really only going to track the car.

track eh? who you driving with? (nasa, PAS, etc)

im an instructor and the drift director for NASA arizona.

on track dont take it above 220. thats your danger zone. i would highly recommend a good oil cooler if you dont already have one, it will help keep your temps down and in the hotter months, extend your ability to stay on track.

To be honest, I was going to start another thread to inquire about track days in phoenix. I used to do track days with the Alfa Club in WA (Pacific Raceways and Bremerton Raceway) in my Integra. Haven't been out to any days here because I haven't had a ride.

That's badass! If that is a pic of you in your sig, you're a madman. I'd actually love to do some drift instruction with this car.

I know Firebird raceway has a few open track days during the year. Other than that I'm clueless at this point. Any sites or resources that list options here in the phoenix area?

Good call on the oil cooler. McKinney gave me a short list of things I need for the track and that is on it.

http://www.nasaarizona.com

i highly recommend running with them. they mostly drive at PIR (phoenix international raceway) but do have a few events out at firebird throughout the year. they are the most organized group ive driven with and seem to have the most fun.

right now this is our down time because its 87273 degrees outside. and most cars overheat when you open the garage, let alone when they are on track haha

yes thats me, i drift and do HPDE/Time trial with it when i have time.

also, http://www.az240sx.org we keep a running list of all events going on in the state (grip, drift, autocross) and surprisingly there is a very large following of 240 owners who are track people.

welcome to hell my friend, if you have any questions about the local "scene" dont hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the links, Joe! I'll definitely be signing up with them (NASA AZ). Looks like September/October is go time.

Haha I know, it's madness outside! I've lived here since 2005 and I forget every year how freakin' hot it gets, and always seem surprised when I'm sweating after 30 seconds in the sun.

I'll definitely hit you up when I start going to events. Thanks again, man. Hopefully I'll see you out at the track.
