What does everyone use for oil filters? What do you think the top three are?
I usually use the Mobil 1 filter. I have used K & N and WIX in the past.
I use Mobil 1 oil all the time.
How often do you go between oil changes if you are using a full synthetic?
I do it at around 4,500 mi.

Its kind of personal opinion.

I go with OEM Nissan filters and Mobil 1 myself. And I'm cautious with changes every 3-3.5k miles.

Yea, I use to change mine around 3,500. Alot of people told me I'm crazy and wasting money changing synthetic that often. The way I see it, it may not break down that soon but it still gets dirty. People say you can easily go 6k and more. I dont feel comforatable doing that though.
I usually pick up my oil and filter from Advance Auto when they have the sale for the Mobil 1 filter and 5 quarts of oil. Save a lot of $$ that way!

You guys changing synthetic oil & costlier oil filters at anything below 5k miles are really wasting your money. Conventional oil will protect your engine just as well up to 5k miles in the vast majority of conditions. Conventional vs. synthetic oil isn't about which one is "better", it's about which one lasts longer in relation to cost.

See this post for more information about engine oil and filters.

I happened to stop by Advance Auto today to pick up a few things and they were having the Mobil 1 oil and filter sale. Im not due for an oil change for about another 1,000 miles or more, but when it's on sale I pick it up. On 5 quarts of oil and a filter I saved $27.95! I payed 29.99, so thats almost half off....great deal! They have that sale fairly often. Its defenatelly worh lookin out for it! :yesnod

I used Nissan OEM for my G's...but the NAPA filters are really good as well. For oil, highly recommend Royal Purple! Full synthetic oil, and you'll notice a difference in performance! I've been using it for 10+ years now.

I'm not sure I believe seeing a performance increase just by using a different oil, but I have heard it is suppose to be good oil. Is it expensive? Where is it available?

I think advance, o'reillys and autozone carry it... Summit Racing also carries it online...but check this store out...cheaper!

LOTS of OPINIONS on this!!! :chuckle:
I've had very good luck using M1 syn and OEM filters.
I change anytime after 3K when it's convenient but normally before 3.7K
NAPA sells WIX filters and I've used those before in other cars. Have always heard that WIX made some of the best filters.
I do use WIX air filters in all of our cars.
Also, have used M1 oil filters

Without a doubt, Wix or Donaldson are the best filters you can buy. If you cannot believe it, cut open that piece of garbage from Nissan and a Wix filter, take a look. It's amazing how cheap the stock production filters are on the inside. Most of the other stuff on the market is about the same, all you have to do is spend a few bucks and cut one open to find out. Haha, I cut open a Fram that some of my friends swore by and a Napa Gold (Wix) - they were amazed at how badly the Fram filter was, even my wife who knows nothing but put gas in and turn the key was impressed with the differences.

As to oil, whatever 100% synthetic that wallymart is selling (usually Mobil-1) is a good choice and helps offset what you paid for the filter. Once you go to synthetic though it is better to stay with the same brand. Dino oil doesn't care a bit. You could mix 5 different brands together at each oil change and it wouldn't matter a bit. The reason is that oil has to meet a mil-spec which requires all oils sold domestically to be compatible with each other. In the event of war, we do not have time to make sure certain oils can work with each other. Or as an example, try putting something other than Castrol or ELF in that older British sports car - you'll wish you hadn't.

Oil changes on my stuff range from 10-12,000 miles to at least one a year if that amount of mileage is not hit during the 12 months. Changing it more often unless you're at the dragstrip or autocross on a regular basis is a complete waste of money and time. I have had the pan off the G a couple of times, checking the bearings and with synthetic in the pan since I bought her, everything looks really good. High heat as seen in these cars when they are pressed calls for an adequate oil cooler, that should be your real concern not the mileage number. High heat kills oil, breaks down the additive packages and it's shear strength - those are the things protecting your engine.

Okay - let the ranting begin~! :rotfl

I try to do my oil and filter changes every 6 months or so. I never hit the mileage...

After watching a dyno of an engine after a regular oil change, then a Royal Purple oil change, I'll never use anything else. Significant increase in HP and TQ.

Now, if I drove on the highway all the time, I'd probably use cheaper oil. But that's just me.

You really saw a difference on the dyno by just using Royal Purple? Thats a hard one to believe! What were the numbers? If it's true I'll be switching!

Wow! Thats cool. Except thats not just changing the oil. They changed multiple fluids. I may switch and do my oil and tranny oil and possibly try adding the coolant additive. Especially since they say the engine in the G runs hot...

i exclusively used RP in my old g35x... then i was using it in my G37x. But one day they didnt have RP at the local store and i was about to go on a trip so i couldnt wait on an oil change. I tried Penzoil Ultra and was amazed i got simular results to the RP. Like with RP the VQ engine is super quiet compared to mobile 1, the penzoil ultra was super quiet too. Then with the RP i had notice a small jump in milage compared to the mobile 1; but i didnt drop mileage the milage gain using the Penzoil ultra. The Penzoil ultra at walmart is about $26 for 5 quarts vs $50 for RP. Since then ive been using Penzoil ultra in my G37x.

filter wise im still using a Mobile 1 EP filter

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5/30 - what they put in Ferraris and I've used it in my 400 HP Audi S4. A few good filters out there like Mobil 1, Purolator Synthetic. etc.

Last oil I put in the Audi was Liqui Moly with an additive that fluoresces under UV light. Helps find leaks (and the Audi had/has many - but 265k miles now)

After reporting suspicious noises from my G37X engine bay ( at 90,000 kilometers, still under warranty), my Infiniti dealership's service dep't, with input and recommendations from Infiniti's TechLine support, replaced the Bank 1 cylinder head and Bank 1 VVEL Actuator. AT that time it was recommended that any further oil changes use Nissan "999MP-5W30EP Ester Oil 12". Has anyone else had a similar experience with the 3.7 liter powerplant? Anyone else use this pricey alternative lubricant (runs C$14.95 per liter or US$11.90 at the dealership)?

Comments?

Just kind of wondering what that has to do with the oil? Any name brand dino or synthetic should be more than adequate.

mac here, on that Ester oil , yes I use it - from day one in 2014 Juke AWD (35mi new - now @ 35k) change = summer 4500mi winter 5000mi max.Car purchased Aug. 1st 2015.Here's why , and maybe why others should too :
The Juke has from original '11 to '13 model years a "Recommendation to Service" letter, I believe released in 2012 or 2013 (NOT even a TSB I believe!!) on "Timing chain wear, rubbing, tensiner problems" - "if your Juke has noisy rapping bring in, IF DESIGNATED VIN/YR. we MAY repair at no charge(or something like that) ONLY UNTIL MID 2015 !!!!! " . I specifically saw reputable info saying that 2015's had engine upgrades including this and I believe 2016' and thus the final 2017's had even some more improvement/upgrades . With MY 2014 seemingly absent of any VERIFICATION that this known T.C. - tensioner problem "Fix" was in fact applied to my year - that I can find - I mayhave to assume, noted others criticism of Nissan these days , MY CAR FALLS THROUGH the CRACKS !!!!! :wtf2:
So ,back to anyone still in warranty and me I have done the 6 oil chng's , purchased w/cred. card (so as I could't be easily accused of returning such expensive oil & getting "Cashback" - this designated Ester oil , and keep one of the last empty bottles I date w/Sharpie! So it's $4 more/ qut. - that's $20 x the six = $120 , had the car 2 1/2 years ; everybody see where I'm going ? I do all the changes myself . One reason why is the Dealer gave the free 1st change & free paint re-sealer job @ purchase (called -in @4900mi by the way!!) I thoroughly pre-washed carchecked oil level ,was 3/4 down(you know new engine break-in -I never mess with nor add initial factory oil level for many reasons  ) . I get car back - rub my hand over back of roof NO DIFFERENCE , I even see in sunlight FINGERPRINTS I purposely left!!!! :bs: Now I get out the white napkin I wiped @ Dealer lot BEFORE oil chng. OIL is BLACK ,yet topped off, NAPKIN says OLD OIL !! :wtf2: So I used Mob1 w/Mob1 Filter on that 1st change myself-same napkin now wiped nice & clean oil next to the two bad wipes. Subsequent news of the engine susceptibilities I then decided to ONLY buy ,& document Ester oil & Nissan (oversize) Filters . :dblthumb:

Royal Purple is pretty and all, and it's a fine motor oil, but if you has the extra $ I suggest stepping it up to Amsoil. They say the Signature Series is good for 25k miles between changes! Don't think I'd go that far, but at around $60 a gal, 15k - 20k is reasonable.
