What's the best you've gotten?

I just filled up today, but I went 417 miles on that tank before I decided I didn't want to push it any further and risk running out. Anyway, upon refueling, I found that I had about half a gallon left in the tank. I think that puts me about 34 miles per gallon. This is definitely the best tank I've had and I'm just shy of the 4000 mile mark.

i only have 1600 miles on mine, but the last tank was the best range, avg 31.8 mpg -- been around 30 the last two tanks.

You must do a lot of city driving... either that, or you've got a much heavier foot on the gas pedal. I go really easy on it. Is the CAI supposed to help the gas mileage at all?

280 miles, 33.7mpg .... while towing a 900lb trailer in Colorado... go figure.

Yes its supposed to help a little, but once u get it installed and you hear the roar when you floor it you don't want to have a feather foot.

My low fuel light turns on at about 380 miles. The last few tanks I have gone at least 420 miles before refulling. Never added more than 11.8 gallons.

But I have the magic Versa that is averaging 36.7 mpg over 13,000+ miles

Yes, this topic will forever be won by XterraVersa.

His magic Versa must have its tank lined with pixie dust, and his insane attention to detail in driving nets him far more fuel economy than anyone else.

Of course, I happen to know that if he tried driving like that in my city, he would have been flattened by something 8 times his size long ago because face it, bad city drivers don't care as long as they get there.

It's not hard to get under 30 mpg. Refer to the fuel economy sticky above if you haven't already.

Now, it IS pretty hard to get 23 mpg. Either you have a lead foot, drive in pure stop and go traffic, or have a fault in your car.

Given the scenario, we know CodeRed is the first scenario there.

I think if you polled everyone on here I doubt that you'd find many people that would agree that it's hard to get less than 30mpg. I do it on a regular basis and I'm not that heavy of foot. I do a lot of city driving tho. Ive been getting from 420km to 490km per tank.

I usually get gas around the 360 mark. Tends to be about 11 gallons.

There must something about having a 6 speed at higher altitude. My Versa cosistenly got better mileage throughout Colorado. If I had driven my vacation without the trailer, I would have matched his numbers. I think our car is part mountain goat.

im guessing this number should go up mildly as your car 'wears-in'? seems like the more mileage i put on the car it slowly starting to do a lil' better on the gas.

Because of my commute and where the best gas prices are, I usually don't even wait until the low fuel light comes on, although I've had several tanks over 400 miles. Over the last 4,000 miles (out of 27,000), though, I've averaged 33.7 mpg.

I've heard that there is some faulty gages on the Versa (my car dealer told me), some indicate miles but in fact they are measuring km, which will eventually end up being 36 +. Convert this reading in miles and you will get much lower mileage.I am in Canada and cannot get more than 450 km per tank (280 mi). If i drive more agressively, I will get 410 km (255 mi) per tank.I am very disappointed with the fuel consumption. I have a Malibu Maxx and it gets as much mileage as the Versa but with a 3.5 liter V6 motor, 200 HP !

I think you have it backwards. I believe that there were some Canadian Versas fitted with US odometers. That was back in some pre-December Versas

Yes, some Canadian Versas were fitted with US odometers, before Decembre 2006. But those in the US who says they can get more than 36 mi/USG should look for a faulty odometer too (indicating km instead of miles). I just cannot see how you can drive this car and get such a good mi/gal. I am not agressive on the pedal and on average I get 24 to 26, absolutely not more than that. I have never had a car that performed so badly compared to the US EPA rating.

Then I would have to tend to say you've either not owned a car or are hiding something.

2007 and earlier EPA ratings are notoriously off on the high side. Why do you think that people who actually GET the ratings are so ecstatic?

If you don't know what I mean, go talk to a Prius driver. That will be a fun conversation for you.

The EPA tests everything in a lab under "ideal" conditions (Which are NOT realistic). Every person in every place has different road conditions, commutes, altitudes, roads, driving habits, etc. etc., all of which have at least SOME effect on fuel economy (see fuel economy sticky above).

As a point of oddity, it DOES seem like Versas like hills and mountains better than flatlands. I just can't explain KC5F. j/k

Speaking as said oddity, my commute is about 2/3 "piedmont" driving, once I get out of the mountains - slightly rolling hills. And at the edge of the Blue Ridge is a grade where I am able to coast in neutral for about 2.5 miles, which helps some. (Of course, I do have to come back up the same grade every evening!)

And yes, the odometer matches my previous car and my wife's car for the trip to work, so unless all three are showing km I think it's good. I'm just easy on the acceleration, although on the interstate I consistently run 72-78 mph.

Converting the kilometers to miles, in the US, and buying in gallons, I got 40 mpg.

Best in Canada, 5 litres per 100 kilometers.

City driving, however, totally sucks.

The odometer is accurate. I have compared the trip mileage to work with GPS, mapquest, google maps & other vehicles. My versa has an accurate odometer.

I learned fuel economy driving with my Xterra. I was getting 13-15 mpg on the commute. I changed how I used the skinny pedal & got it up to 16-20 mpg. No mechanical changes, just a change in mindset. The trip time stayed the same since it was in stop-n-go traffic. I just stopped less and stayed off the bumper of the guy in front of me. Coasted to stops, stayed in the highest gear I could without dieseling the engine...

I finally got is my head that better mpg is more money staying in my bank and less going to the terrorlst's bank.

The best I've ever gotten on one tank was 55.1 mpg on trip up the north east. I'm not sure how, but the math was correct. I've never been able to get up that high ever since . I average 34.6.
