Any "big" guys on this forum who use race seats? If so, which ones are best for big guys? For example, I am a 36/38 waist (38 on after holidays!).

My cheap Tenzo-R's I had in my EG (see this forum link: zerothread?id=164644) were very wide...but again, as you can see from my previous remarks...I don't want to go the cheap route again (I was young and broke! - forgive me).

I dunno much in the seating dept, but I do know the following:

1) Some seats are fia approved, some are not. What I am looking for is a good, non-fia approved, fixed back seat (my reasons are cost and safety), that is made for a wide guy like me. No Cheapo Ebay stuff, No knock offs.

2) These buddy club seats are only 11pds and come in a "wide" version. Attached is the dimensions. I did the conversions for inches, and my question is: For the size that has an * (see image), does that mean half my waist size? That means I need to be a 32.5 waist to fit that seat....is that right? I kinda got excited when I saw these seats b/c I hear the Nagisa/Nams Auto Super Low Rails can be used to mount them...

3) So, let's say the buddy club won't fit me...anyone know of any good seats I can check out? Again, no ebay crap, no knockoffs..and within the same budget range...($200-$400) per seat...give or take $50.

4) FYI - I wanted R32 seats...but its hard to come to grips with buying a used set shipped from cali, based on photo images...

5) Spare me the lose weight jibe - I'm working on it!

oh - and the reason I don't want to mess with s14 or s15 seats is b/c I got a set of coupe doors and don't want to molest my back panels to do the seatbelt conversion AZ did. I'd rather go with a harness set.

I am 5'11 and 230 lbs and I'm pretty snug/comfy my recaro but my bigger brothers don't like it. A seat that I do like and is available in a larger version is the composite Magnum line which is sled tested for safety and made of glass/CF construction, and the best part is that its around $400 bucks each and already has cutouts for 5/6 pt harnesses.

I'm probably going to get a set once I get the bank lined up (and 100 other things finished on my car)... you can check them out at pegasusautoracing.com

oh - what type of recaro seat do you have? Also, thanks for the link. I checked it out and it seems like the specs to the wide version..are a bit smaller than the buddy club...so...that means...if this seat is supposed to be bigger...than your recaro's...then I guess the buddyClub seat would def fit me well.

Magnum Wide Specs:Internal width at hips: 16"Internal depth at base: 18"External width at shoulders: 22"External width at base: 20"External depth at base: 20"Overall height: 35"

its not half your waist size btw... its just how wide your waist is at the widest point. and you want the seat to be as snug as possible.

thanks for the reply. Seems like the Forza 2 is a bit too big - says its supposed to be for a 42-44 waist. Damn.

yeah you don't want one that is too big, although if you get one that has extra room you can always add one of those form fitting pacs that would make the seat fit better (and those can help you out in a crash anyway). The ideal seat would be about exactly as wide as your waist (keeping in mind that the foam will compress an inch or two) for a snug but comfortable fit. You want the seat to hold you in place during cornering etc but the big thing is in a crash if you fit snug in your seat you will move around less, which lets your harnesses work more effectively and places less strain on your body since any forces will be applied over a larger part of your body (your big ***, which is already tight in the seat).
