Orbitals are great. They have nice completely random patterns. As far as which wax, what ever floats your boat. I use Meguiars. There's no right or wrong wax to use. Don't use a polish\cleaner though.

I would first use a car polish then wax it!

I would not rist getting any dirt or spots on the paint.i'd rather eat away the wax it came with polish then seal the clean paint with wax.I dont like throwing wax on without polish...its just the way i like it.its like cleaning a wound before you dress it.i understand its a new car but its just my recomendation.

Only polish your car to rid it of swirls and haze.

For you, as a first timer, just give it a few coats of pure wax. By hand is fine if you're up to it and don't mind the effort it takes. Just make sure you use high quality products, you can't put a price on a job done right. Like proxim said, if you use a buffer, use a random orbital buffer, I reccommend the Porter Cable 7424. I use Meguiar's products as well, and either Gold Class or NXT Generation waxes. You should apply about two coats of pure wax -- make sure it is pure, not a cleaner wax, you don't want any abraisives -- and then one coat of carnauba. Remember to use superthin coats of wax, less is best. Buff off with two different microfibers. You can talk to your brother, since he used to do detailing, if you have any questions.

I use Meguairs NXT products. My versa is almost 2 weeks old and i washed it very well and applied the wax in the shade.

The NXT Products are a bit more than some others but they are well worth the few extra dollars.

I went to Costco and got a few packs of the Microfiber rags which are essential in taking care of the car.

Good luck!

I use what the PRO's use, 3M all the way baby. Hard to find and expensive but worth it for me. 3M does have an e-store found here.

I believe NAPA may carry their line, at least they did in the past. Like so many of 3M's great products, nobody knows they exist because they do a crappy job of marketing (especially to consumers). Under new management, that MAY be about to change. 3M recently hired Courtney Hansen to be spokesperson for their line of Car Care products. Good move or bad move???? Time will tell! She is/was the host of OverHaulin' and has her own automotive related talk show geared towards women. She's also going to be hosting a new adventure show. Not sure if hiring an actress/model to be spokeperson for a technical product is a wise choice but she's not hard to look at. Ironically, the other star of OverHaulin' is renowned car designer, Chip Foose and HE is a spokeperson for Mother's Wheel polishes.

If you check out the Press Section of her website, Courtney has quite a varied background.
