Ok guys, I dunno if this came up already, but search didn't do much for me either as it came up with too many hits. Ok so here's my dilemma. I'm checkin around for a new filter and it's boiled down to a few that I'm sure we're all at least somewhat familiar with.

Apex Twin FunnelBlitz SUSGreddy AirnixHKS Super Mega FlowK&N

Ok so this isn't just about flow, but also about how well it filters. I've checked the Apexi and the Blitz as no maintainence, the HKS and Greddy just needs a new filter every so often, while the K&N is a pain in the butt with the reoiling.

Their filtration though, is what is a bit of a concern. I've heard the HKS if the filter's not fitted properly can let a bunch of crap though, but I'm unsure of what's going to happen if it's on properly. I've heard good things about the Apexi and the K&N, and that the Greddy one is huge but other than that not much else.

Any recommendations or personal experiences?

Apex-i is the best filter. K&N is second and then so on and so on. Some guys did a filter test a couple years ago using K&N, Apex-i, Blitz, and HKS filters.

I say K&N and Blitz SUS are probably the best. Apexi is basically the same.

believe it or not, the $19.99 ebay filters are the exact same one Injen, Rod Millen Motorsports, and Edelbrock use. They are China made filters and can be purchased for $5.00 if bought in large quantities. The filter elements are all the same for these filters. Funny thing is, the Rod Millen and Injen filters offer the greatest gain and are really expensive on the market. The Rod Millen intake has the exact same intake element and cone as the ebay filters.

When I purchased my MAF sensor on ebay, the seller accidentally sent me an extra filter that is the same as the Rod Millen filter. I will try it on my SR when I swap it.

Apexi is known as the best filter. K&N is great for the money. Supposedly the new Blitz LM is as good as the apexi.

whoa serious? damn. Well I've got the ebay stuff now and I questioned how good it was (I originally wanted it for the adapter but got lazy on my search for K&N filters) and stuck with it for a while. Just I decided to get around to swapping it for something better.

isn't K&N an oil based filter, which is bad for your MAF.

Yeah I had heard that the oil from the K&N will eventually coat the inside of your intake which isn't good for your mafs. Hence me lookin elsewhere now.

Oil based filters are only bad if you dont use them properly. You have to let the oil dry before you put it back on your car which im sure some people have not done.

Blitz is ok, I use it because all I have to do to clean it is put it under a hose.

ApexI is a dry type filter that requires no oiling up to clean. You will have to replace it, but not for quite awhile. I do believe the ApexI filtered best too.

Blitz and HKS filtered worst, HKS being the absolute worst.

i was under the assumptoin that any oil based filter is good for filtering but mucho bad for the MAFS but i could be wrong. Anyone can correct me if they have actual knowledge on the mater and not just second hand or "i heard..."

I've had a K&N filter on my car for the past 2 yrs on my sr and 1 yr on my ka and didn't cause me any problems. Rumors online are killing good companies.

the K&N is cotton gauze LIGHTLY oiled. Even if you put it on immediately after oiling it won't hurt anything. You shouldn't oil it enough that it is dripping or anything just a very light coating. and it DEFINATELY isn't enough oil to coat your intake. the oil is pretty thin. Unless you have a catch can or filter for your valve cover berather a million K&N's wouldn't let in 1/2 the amount of oil that that thing does.

My Injen didn't filter dirt worth ish. There were also relatively large holes in the gauze. I way over-oiled it after I cleaned it, but even before that, there was residue all over the inside my MAFS. Now I am pretty sure I want a dry type filter. I also live somewhere EXTREMELY dusty, sofrequent cleaning is important. How does the Blitz SUS compare in filtration to the A'pexi? Since the A'pexi eventually needs replacing, the Blitz SUS could be worth the (wow) $180. Or the cheap littler Blitz LM are supposed to work as well too?

Oh yeah: HKS now offers a stainless mesh cone filter like Blitz too. I guess the "ultimate" foam dome was not so ultimate.

Every single day out here in the dirty southwest! Actually, I live right in the dust infested hills. When I wash my car, by the time I am drying, you could drag a finger accross the windshield and have dust all over it. So I need real "ultimate" filtration. I need to move too.

i dunno about all of you but my fundage is limited because of my work schedule , so i bought a generic filter from heavythrottle. It looks good and I imagine it will perform good. If you want pics just ask
