current options (price between 1 and 2 grand) FOR STANDALONE SYSTEMS
apexi, haltech, AEM, HKS, reytech
my goal is to build the most absolutely responsive SR I can possible pull off without extensive mechanical redesign.
I want FULL or ALMOST FULL power by 3000 RPM. yes. I know how difficult and expensive that will be.
I know that it will absolutely REQUIRE cams, new turbo, injectors, head work, etc. Those are all given, and I knew that already....
I know that this goal will require a powerful tuning system. certainly not attainable with a piggyback.
so I will ASSUME that the haltech is my best bet. after that I would assume that the best would be the AEM, followed by Apexi, follwed by HKS.
the reytech is probably the best system, but is the most difficult system to work with (no support, not as common so less tuning experience, etc)
let me say one thing:
I am not some idiot kid dreaming.... I may not have thousands of posts, but I know what I am talking about to a degree. We have already installed the SR. It runs great. It has some basic mods. ****, it is even REGISTERED IN CALI!!!! (smogged FTW).
and yes. I did lurk.... the threads discussing this topic usually the strengths of 1 over another, or are a free for all "review" with no common point of view.
please take me seriously. i would like the opinion of someone who is not trying to sell me something before i go and drop 4500 on parts.
BTW: sorry if I come off as a d!ck.
I know how annoying it is when little high school kids come on here and start spouting bull**** about their "cars" that dont exist, asking about installing sr20vets in their 240, etc.
I know that my post kind of sounds like that, but it shouldnt.
again, I may not be a nissan technician with years of experience, but I did spend a summer spelunking around in my engine bay, installing an sr20 and tons of supporting mods in my 2nd s13 with the help of a toyota mechanic friend, so I am not a TOTAL idiot. I also know plenty about mechanical systems. I may not be an ME, but I am a trained scientist, and I know how engines work...
thanks.
