I have a 1990 S13, and my stock KA engine is pushing 180,000 and getting a little worn out (been driven hard). I bought the car to be a project and never really got into it so I figure I might as well start here. What type of new engine would you all recommend? I have heard good things about the SR20 and the RB line (RB26 specifically, if I can get it to fit). I have also heard that those engines require some tinkering to get them to mount into a '90. Any other engines you think I should consider? Sorry if this seems like a duplicate post, I searched through thousands and didn't see a specific answer. Thanks for your input.

you haven't found a specific answer be cause there is none. It really depends on your budget more than anything. Look around and see what you can afford. Most SR20 clips I have seen are around 2K-2.5K, KA's are much cheaper, and I dont really know too much about the RB engines.

Another possibility is the CA18 engine. Look around on the engine specific boards to see what you want.

theres a million posts on this **** guys, dak2007 it's a pretty straight forward swap if you fell confident and you do your homework the only problem you should have is wiring. But if not go w/ the mechanic.

Yeah, I figured a few grand for it, but I will almost certainly have it installed cause I don't have any time/willpower/facilities to get it done. I have seen a KA with a turbo get good results, and thought that might be an alternative. I guess I am just wondering which engine will get the best results for the price. And because I need to swap the engine anyway, i can't just add a turbo to my old KA. Looking over those links i pretty much narrowed it down to a turbo KA or CA, still trying to decided between those. Which of the KA / CA models are the best with a turbo? Thanks again

Not sure what you mean here. I'd check the KA-T and CA forums here for more info. Both areas have a wealth of knowledge if you just read up.

This kind of thread topic can be equated to a Pandora's box. I'd suggest hitting up the SR, RB, CA and KA-T forums. They usually have members posting about their particular setups/costs/results. Research, and whatever you find most appealing afterwards is your best bet. There is no "one size fits all" answer. Just my $00.02.

Get with the Sr20det or Ca18det. Both engines are good. I have an Sr20det in my car and it runs fine.(right) My friend has a Ca18det and the engine runs really strong.

Call Finishline Motorsports. 770-425-6440ask for Sae or Mike they will take care of you. Ask the right questions. Dont waste there time.

Hey bcar, do you know what you want to do with the car? Are you going for a nice daily driver, show winner, AutoX? That'll help in your decision. You could always get another KA, they are good motor, a little weak in the power department, but that can be changed just like any other motor. Plus your car will be street legal.
