People who call themselves poor students should NOT consider swapping engines. At this point in life, reliable transportation at an affordable price should be your main concern. Keep your car in proper OEM condition. No need to go hungry just to make your car not-so-reliable. I'm not saying that swapping engines will make your car unreliable, BUT, you should never ever swap anything unless you are prepared to
1. put your car in the garage and find other transportation--this parking of your car <could> last for months, or as long as it takes to find the money to complete the swap.2. invest heavily in the long list of "should do's" that go along with such a swap. Again, since money is in short supply, it will take more time to get money, meaning if you hit even the smallest unanticipated snag, your car sits.
Younger fellas often get caught up in the "I want's" and don't take the time to see the overall picture. If you wait on a swap, not only will you have more money to buy more bolt on goodies, you might also have a second form of transportation. This will allow you to take your time, set the car aside as a project, modify the engine with the parts you want, all at once. None of this nickle & dime crap. The best engine for a poor student is whatever the hell is under the hood right now.
