Elemental designs are awesome! They completely compesated me for having to WAIT for my packages to come back to me. I blew the rubber off of one of my sub-woofers and, being the cheap bastard i am, decided to super glue the rubber back on. The amplifier i bought with the subs had bad RCA connections and had stopped working on me. They thought i had tampered with it(i didnt because im afraid of trap some companies set just incase a jackass does tamper with it), but they still decided to fix it under warranty. The total for the work and parts done to it would have costed me about $160, but after simply waiting and explaining what i did with the sub its only costing me $45. Completely polite, apologetic, and understanding.

Dont get me wrong, you're probably having the implication that their stuff is unreliable or unworthy to have. IMO they are great speakers. when i had purchased their stuff, they were moving from canada to iowa, they were a new company, and they were having trouble with the people mass manufacturing their stuff. they have those problems solved now. Great sound, cheap, and very responsive. Would i buy them again? no, simply because im anal rententive and have to have a matching sound system so im going all out on JL Audio. If i can go back in time with the knowledge i have now, i would go with eD.

Aaron Funk-the person i've been dealing with about my repair work is great.Ben Milne-Awesome man, even though he's the president of the company, he's still willing to talk to customers and give deals to people who have been customers from the start(my brother owns the galant thats on the little booklets they give out with products) and customers who constantly come back. Boy am i glad im finally going to be knocking 2 subs instead of being afraid of blowing the one thats left

I do not recommend doing a full JL Audio system. Their speakers are no where near accurate. Their amps are overpriced, as well as their subs.

I recommend you look into DLS speakers and amps. They're currently top dog in the sound quality competitions.

Also, for subs I'd go with either Elemental Designs or TC Sounds. Not JL Audio.

It's too bad TC more than doubled a lot of their prices...... their pricing was unbeatable!

....... and no more online sales.

Really. I hadn't been paying attention. That really sucks.

I have two of their 12" db-500s. Bought them when they were onsale for $75 a piece. Incredible drivers.

TOO LATE! by the time i really started to get into car audio, i already purchased their 5x7 component set(i got it at -5%cost because i used to work for an electronic store named the good guys and i custom fitted it into my old s13) purchased CD8053 and got a 300/4 all for -5% cost. then. like i said before im anal retentive when it comes to a non matching car audio system for some reason and since i already purchased JL audio which hasnt failed me im sticking with JL.

As for its inaccuracy, i dont see what you're saying. I can crank them up SUPER DOOPER loud and get no distortion. it depends on the deck that you're using that makes you think that. As for the overpricing hells yeah its overpriced. one thing i dont like about eD is that they dont take a beating like JL audio subs do. JL isnt as accurate as alot of subs out there, but they sure can take power unlike alot of other subs i've seen(rockford, sony is laughable, mtx, eclipse is laughable also, pioneer and thats all i can remember at the moment). then again i have to remember that i have eD's kv series

That's not what i'm talking about. I'm talking about if you run a straight sweep from 20hz to 20khz what is the variation between the signal and the actual output level?

It should be within +-3dB over the range that the speaker is asked to play.

Last time I checked the JLs were somewhere around +-9dB over that range

In other words, if I send a signal from a cd through the HU to the amp and then to the speakers it should thoretically come out at "x" volume. How far the actual volume is away from "x" shows relatively how accurate the speaker is. The closer to "x" the better.

I currently use Focal components in my car

i have to hear what you're talking about. technicalities like that pwn me please explain in lamemans terms

edit-i understand what you mean. you're basically saying that on a meter it should be as close to "x" as possible and a really good speaker should be +-3db from "x", but do you really hear it? i only really look for is distortion when im judging speakers, as long as there is non when its pushed im happy

An all JL system will be fine but what are you going to do about the head unit not matching?<-- Does not like sound of Focal.

well JL doesnt make a HU so i cant do anything about it. Besides to me nothing beats the wonderful sound of Eclipses CD8053. I need a new one though, everytime i mess with the power or change operation, the subs kick. I have it grounded properly and everything, but no matter what the subs still thump. Any ideas?
