I have these brand new rebuilt G50 front calipers waiting to be put on my sil40. I need rotors and pads, and was wondering what to go with. They don't need to be slotted or anything just up to oem spec.

So what should I go with? Is there any aftermarket brands that you've had a good experience with? I mean, I'm just looking for something that is the best bang for the buck. I don't need ceramic pads and fancy rotors, but the most important thing is they don't squeek/grind. Dealer stuff is expensive as usual, but if there's nothing better for cheaper, I guess I'll "brake" down and get that, lol, I'm a nerd.

Any suggestions are welcome.

OEM for both, or Brembo blanks for the rotors.

What if you get crappy Autozone rotors and good Hawk pads?

Unfortunately, you have to pick either cheap or good ... and usually with a Q45, there's not a cheap option.

One of the main reason so many S-chassis guys go with the Z32 over the Q45, is replacement rotor costs (high) and options (low).

You've got less to worry about from a mass/warping standpoint, but most Q45 rotors are made with the Q's weight in mind.

How do you know if they are crappy? Have you personally used them before?

Sadly yes. The only thing with cheap rotors is that they warp faster than any of the more expencive ones.

This might help with preventing brake rotor warping: zerothread?id=98539

W/E. I cheaped out. I bought the rotors/pads at Checker/O'Rielly.The pads are a semi-metallic and made by Wagner.

I let you guys know how they are once I get them on. Hopefully they aren't that bad.

Hawk pads FTW!

I'm in the market for new rotors though. I think i might just go with some Brembo blanks.

Unless I've missed some information, he's using Q45 brakes on an S13, it's several hundred pounds lighter. He's very unlikely to see any warping, unless he tracks the every living crap out of the car.

Ok, the brakes are almost done. I'll post pics soon.

The biggest hold up I had with these is finding the mounting bolts for the calipers. THEY ARE A b****. It's 11mm fine thread with a big shoulder, super special. They're available NOWHERE but the dealer (found out the hard way) and at the dealer, they were back ordered for weeks. So I had to go to the junkyard and get them.

Word of advice to you Q guys. If you're buying/selling Q brakes, include the mounting bolts. J30 bolts will work too.

On the Q we're pretty picky about going OEM parts, but on a smaller lighter car I'd say things are different. BTW, I think it's the same brakes on a J.

Ok. I finished them.

The pedal seems a little mushy. Not too bad, I can definitely feel that they're better. Should I think about upgrading the master cyl/booster? I kinda chose the Q brakes so I wouldn't have to.

Any precautions I should take "braking" them in? lol this is my first car.

You must bed the brakes correctly. Read the instructions at Brembo.

Surely you are using the G50 MC?

I don't know what the 240 Master Cylinder is like, but I would expect the G50/Q45 one to be heavier. If you're using the G50 calipers, I'd use the G50 master cyl. It's small in terms of space and should be better. I've heard the ones off the 90 models are better - Tokiko.

well the Q45 has a 1inch bore, I dont recall what the 240 has but I believe its either a 15/16 or a 7/8... Which means you're within about .1" or so.. Not really significant IMO..

I would bleed the brakes really good, be sure to bleed the MC first, then do all 4 corners!

Yeah, we bled the fronts just so we could get it off stands and take it around the block. We'll bleed the hell out of it today and then do some hard stops to bed them. I'm sure that'll help quite a bit. Hopefully, it'll be enough.

I don't really want to have to change the master cylinder.

Well if your car is a non ABS car it wont do any good because all G50 MC's are for ABS cars.

I'm not sure if it's 100% the best way, but I always get up to about 20-25MPH then press the brakes hard a few times to bed the brakes. I also do the same in reverse, only not as fast. It's been working for me so far.
