VIS apparently makes good stuff. It is nice that they product here in the US. I am considering calling them up and asking if they can do a non glazed/clearcoated hood for me.

I 2nd the VIS recommendation.

Good friend of mine has had a VIS CF hood on his 328i for over 2 years now, it's held up great even though he parks it outside.

They're also a breeze to install, no mis-fitting, etc...

I think the Seibon is nicer than the VIS.

I compared the 2 side-by-side, and there were differences.

i've heard of both VIS and seibon and heard that seibon comes out on top do they both have the hood latch or do you have to use hood pins?

You should always use hood pins on a cf or fiberglass hood.

Yeah, but isn't Seibon signifigantly more expensive? I was under the impression that he wanted value for money

I'll pay the extra bucks to get Seibon if it fits as well as most people have suggested. I've seen some CF hoods in my time and the majority were cheap pieces of crap that barely fit. One reason why I steered clear of CF hoods for this long.

I highly recommend ViS. I had one of their oem cf hoods and it was niiiice. It fit perfect, came predrilled, wasnt flimsy at all, metal hood latch, and the carbon weave was just about flawless. I do have experience with Seibon and they are very nice as well, but I'd go with ViS due to it being about $150 cheaper.

I recommend VIS hoods. I bought my first one for the S15 front and it looks nice. Fitment is also perfect like everyone says.

look at it this way, its basically cheap insurence on your hood. You dont want your hood flying off.

hood pins aren't necessarily that great either previous owner had removed the hood latch and put pins and the pins rattled loose on the freeway, long story short i needed a new hood and sunroof

i guess it would be alittle lighter w/o the clear coat... any other reason you wouldnt want that? wouldnt it get messed up by the elements if it wasnt clearcoated?

yes.The clear coating is there to protect it from the elements. Without it you get a sunfaded hood that begins to look like an S13 found in a field after 15 years. Blotchy and smared/stained by the suns destructive rays.

VIS is very nice. Use the pins in combination with your stock hood latch to keep theives out from under your hood though. Hood pins alone are easily popped off, and the luggage locks people use are no match for a pair of dikes in a theive's hands.

Get real close up on a Ferrari...They paint directly onto the carbon. You can see the weave in the paint. That is why I don't want a clear coat. Black hoods look ricer, and carbon weave in the paint is straight baller.

Hood pins are ricey IMO.

I have done upwards of 100 with my Seibon, and it doesn't budge.

It's all about adjusting the latch right.

Some companies have crappy hood latch rings, w/o a metal frame. Seibon uses a metal frame.

Go with Seibon. I have a VIS one and I'm about to sell it in favor of a Seibon one.

Call the shop in my sig. It's run by a show team and they're sponsored by Seibon. Tell them Simoun sent you and they'll give you a good deal.
