Hi there,I'm trying to find some information on replacing my headlight bulbs with some brighter. I was looking at a 4100k - 5000k bulb but I've heard that they get to hot and could melt the wiring leading to the socket. So any help with the best brand and color temp that produces the brightest crisp white light would be great. Thanks everyone.

hey 06pathyman,

i just replaced my factory head and foglights with new ones. got sylvania's for the headlights and hella's for the fogs...the fogs do seem to get hot, but no problems so far, knock on wood...

ill keep you posted.

i strongly suggest sylvania's. you will see twice as much road on the sides and much farther ahead of you. and its a crisp white light...not yellow. i love them.

take care and good luck

nah they are bright but then it will just die in an instant, like any other bulb, only early and then the other bulb will die within a week, so you know its not a fluke.... replace both bulbs if youre already doing one

ive had these on a few of my cars and the result is always the same.... 6-8 months and *pop* dead

I have had my silverstars for 18 months now!I won't lie though, one has started to dim a little.

I heard the Osram Nightbreakers were the brightest?

18 months???? you must not drive at night. No, seriously, what the hell do you do to make them last that long?

Even Sylvania says on their own website that the average life of silverstars is 12 months....

http://www.sylvania.com/LearnL.../FAQs/

and ive found the 12 months to be a bit of a stretch... like i said mine lasted 8 mos. on average (probably because i do more driving than the average joe)

really they go out that fast? those things are $60 a pair here in canada, I guess i might as well stick to cheap ebay HID's since its usually a ballast or bulb that goes out. I had mine in since sept and a bulb just went out on one side, but the bulbs have both halogen and xenon so im rolling with my halogens for now till i fix the xenon hid

those silverstars are just as blinding as HID's in my opinion, its just the blue or purple colour people see in HID find it more noticeable and there fore get angry meanwhile silverstars are fine cuz their white...wow

Hahah I don't do a ton of night driving, but I would say 40% of the 25,000 km/s I put this past year was at night.

My only problem is once I put them in, they were not level, and I have not been able to correct it since!Where are the aiming screws?

I'm actually partial to the Philips line of auto bulbs...

Their Vision Plus (+50), and the Night Guide double life (+50), I can get both of these locally for around US$35/pair, and possibly cheaper at Wal-mart, but I haven't checked there yet.

The +50 means these lights put light about 50 feet furtger down the road. There are +80 bulbs, but their lifespan may not be as long.

If you like Sylvania, might I suggest bulbs by the parant company Osram. Osrams are primarily a European market bulb and have superior performance to the NA Sylvania bulbs.

Vision PlusNight GuideMotoVision (yes, its for motorcycles, but they have an unique orange hue to them)

Fueler is defientely correct on the silverstars popping oh so often

I tried them in my rex and they didnt last even one spring/summer, and like he said, one popped, didnt get around to fixing it 2-4 days later, the other popped. Not worth the $60 if you ask me.

I also went through several of the Silverstars. But my experience has been that the Silverstar Ultra's last much longer.

Crazy. I still have the god damned original bulbs in mine.

Of all the stupid s*** that's broken on mine, but I luck out on bulbs. f*** me.

My passenger parking light goes out sometimes now, loose cable. I give it a tap and it comes back on.

I bought the Nightbreakers from ebay and had them for the past few months. I made a thread about them here:

zerothread?id=396390

They are deffinatly brighter than stock bulbs and alot of the other bulbs out there. but they are still yellowish. I just upgraded to 6000K HIDs yesterday and they are awesome. alot more money though ($150) but the nightbreakers were only $30 with shipping so if you are looking for a cheap upgrade those are a good choice.

I've always been partial to Phillips, raybrig, or PIAA, in that order.
