What's the best lube for brake caliper pins? I replaced the rear pads yesterday on "Q1" and the pins looked great. Still plenty of lubrication and no evidence of seizing. These pads have been there for at least 40K (yes they were shot).

I've been using a product called "Super Lube" that lists a temperature range of -65F to +650F - but I'm running out of this stuff and don't know where to buy it locally. Just found a tube of this stuff in my dad's garage.

Any suggestions for anything better? I'm not sure what temperatures are present on the brake calipers...

Thanks!

Heath

The pads can reach 1300F at the extreme but usually don't get much above 700F for most except in mountains. The pins/calipers should be a little colder. But every driver is different.

The last time I did my brakes I bought the seal and hardware kits from Joe, which included little packets of colored grease for the seals, pins and metal pad clips. Not the cheapest way to go, but if you need new shims and hardware anyway, might as well.

I use a 1600+ Hi Temp Anti-seeze paste on all my brake jobs. I even use a little on the backing plates to help with noise.

Permatex makes claiper pin lubricant. It is about $10.00, and will last you for 10 to 15 lifetimes, unless you are running a business replacing brakes.

Is that the blue stuff? I think I've used it, but it came in little "ketchup" packages.

The Permatex stuff is kinda military green. It comes in a plastic bottle, with an applicator brush.
