I'm just trying to figure out what works best to make bass while making the least amont of weight. I'm fighting the power to weight ratio but I would like some bass for the music. I've heard fiberglass boxes with one sub is the best but I'm wondering if you guys know anything else that works well.

well if you're absolutely set on weight reduction, make a carbon fiber box, it'll weigh 1/3 the weight of a fiberglass box, but will cost about, umm, well it'll be fifteen times more expensive :pface (seriously)

but if you're just lookin for some bass fill, a JL W3 in a small fiberglass box shouldn't weigh anymore than 25 lbs.... just outta curiosity, what kind rims do you have? 17's right?

Thats what I was thinking... Just a small sub in a fiberglass box. Oh, and my rims are 17x7's all the way around. I know that is not a normal set up with how everyone staggers their wheel sizes from front to back but for me it was about cost and I didn't have to much to work with. Since my car is n/a for now I kinda like less tread in the back because I like to whip the tail out on it and if I had some 17x10's back their I'd never get them loose.

depends on what kind of system you want, and about the kind of bass you are looking for, but if you get a set of REALLY good components and power them really well you will have great bass response and very little weight. it will sound better than having subs and mediocre mids and highs. i mean you can even get pretty good bass response from an 8" sub and the box wouldn't have to be very big at all... it's all about the quality, and about how much you want to spend. i'd break it down like this:high priced - great quality mids and highs and good amount of powermiddle priced - decent small sub and small box with amplow priced - whatever subs you can come up with, amp and building a box like ayjay said.the weight increases with the less money you spend, but see what you want and check out a few systems to see what you like... pretty much like i said, it depends on what kind of bass response you're looking for, and such.boston acoustics even sells their smaller speakers as sub bass units... like you can buy 6 1/2 or even 5 1/4 pro drivers without the tweeters and build little boxes for them. they do surprisingly well, but obviously you wont get the response of a 12" sub... again all about personal preference and funding.

No screw all that. This is what you do, you take some tin snips, take off that rear speaker deck cover, and use said tin snips to make existing speakers holes larger so you can accomodate some 6 x 9's. That easy.

6x9s will give you good bass reponce, and if not enough then a single ten or 8 in a fiberglass or plexiglass box. What about the JL Audio Micro sub? Anybody know anything about it?

Better than small round ones that can't handle any bass responce.

You could just make a bigger hole for 6 1/2s, like the S13 coupes have. :)

As for best power to weight, I would probably go for one of the Bazooka Amplified tubes. Either that or the Infinity Amplified box.

I wouldn't do Bazooka unless it was at least an 8 inch subwoofer, don't touch anything smaller then that regardless of brand, actually. Infinity Basslink would proble give you better sound quality, but at a higher price. Your best bet: Goto Circuit City and Best Buy and actually listen to the self-amplified systems they have.

um small ones that cant handle bass response? are you joking? not to be an ***... but that is oh so wrong... are you aware what speakers size is not the only thing that determines response and frequency range? for example (maybe not the greatest example but it works anyway)... you know the bose acoustimass home theater speakers? you know that sub unit? yeah those speakers are dual 6 1/2 drivers... i'd say they do pretty good for "no bass response."
