I like these pistons for the money. Good to 700+whp and I like the 8.8-1. You can get the ams sportsman rods from this same sight but you can save $100 getting the eagles from importDPS.

AMSperfomance- arais pistons $500

http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/Niss ... parts.html

importdps- eagle rods $300

http://www.importdpsonline.com/eagle/ea ... 54683.aspx

Thats $800 for both.

Then of course you will need about $500 for , headstuds, HG, gasket kit, timing chain kit, bearings, etc..

Unless your set on changing your compression, I believe that the stock rods are the weakness in the KA. You could just get some forged rods and rock the stock pistons. I think you would have to be pumping major boost to melt a piston.

Best place to find pistons and rods for a good price is on ebay. They have the CP Piston/Eagle rod or Wiseco/Eagle rod combo for cheap. Nothing wrong with Wiseco but I wouldn't run anything other than CP Pistons in my vehicle. I used to work at a shop that was direct with CP, we never had any issues with their product.

If you can tune out detonation, the stock pistons will definitely outlast the stock rods. The rods bend at or just before 500 ft lbs of torque. IMHO, unless you're going for more then 450 whp you can get away with just doing a factory rebuild. New oil/water pumps, gaskets, bearings...generally clean up the entire motor. Add boost, done. The reasons a KA fails are mostly knock or issues related to a part failure like the oil pump or you overheat/undercool etc.

BUT, if you do decide to change the rods you may as well change the pistons. Then you'll have to have the entire rotating assembly balanced.
