On a recent study by Edmunds they came up with a list of the Top 10 Cars with the Best residual value for 2005.

Reads as follows..... "Want to buy a car that really holds its value? If resale value is important to you, these are the cars likely to depreciate the least during the ownership period. Below we show the percentage of its original value that each vehicle is likely to retain after five years with an annual mileage of 15,000. Keep in mind that the residual value percentages are based on the national True Market Value® (TMV) price, plus typical options and destination charge. "

1. Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class — 55.2%

2. Mini Cooper — 55%

3. Ford GT — 52%

4. Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG — 50%Toyota Camry Solara

5. Lexus SC 430 — 49.8%

6. Lexus ES 330 — 48.8%

7. Chevrolet Corvette — 48.5%

8. Audi S4 — 48%

9. Nissan Altima — 47.6%

10. Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG — 47.5%

Also as a point of comparison the car with the lowest residual value is the Dodge Neon with a value of only 26 Percent.

Pretty crazy huh? Nice to see a Nissan crack the top 10. And the Mini (one of my favorite cars) is almost 1st. Also insane is that if you bought a Neon for 10K, in 5 years its worth 2600. What POS's. Anyways figured you'd find it intersting.

ROFL how does an Audi get on that list? Their build quality is atrocious. Oh well, it's a S4 i guess.

If you look at the list though... The only cheaper car is the altima, and the mini.. I dont know how much the S4 is, but since its german, its probably too much...

That means that if you bought a 50k car, after 5 years (75k) its worth 25grand... thats pretty good, but still it sucks.....

You are either better off selling before warranty is up, or selling when its older and it is more fully depreciated.....

http://www.edmunds.com should have whatever you need for more info. Those are the only cars listed in the article though. But you can figure the percentage on their "true cost" calculator. If you want to know others, figure them out

sad news

Steel Shortage Holds Up Nissan ModelsDate Posted 12-02-2004 Japanese automaker Nissan is facing a massive shortage in steel that has forced the company to suspend production at three of its plants, beginning on Nov. 28th, according to the Associated Press. The Agence France Presse reports that Nissan has placed an emergency order for these vital industrial supplies with POSCO, Korea's top steel manufacturer, after Nippon Steel Corporation turned down the automaker's appeal. Nissan officials were quoted as saying that they expected POSCO to perhaps be able to supply half of the requested total. If POSCO does decide to provide Nissan with the steel, it would take roughly two or three months to complete the shipment. Nissan operates four plants in Japan, and it's expected that until they reopen on Dec. 8th, the company will have lost over 25,000 vehicles.

Heh...I expected to see the Ferrari Enzo at the top of that list. Nice to buy a car worth nearly twice as much or more than you paid for it new.

Then again if you're buying a Ferrari Enzo new...you probably don't care about the residual value anyway.

Damn! Where'd you get that info from? Definately sucks. So which 3 plants are affected? Just the ones in Japan?

Man you like to ***** a lot don't you? Almost every single post I see you make you complain about one thing or another. I didn't forget to mention anything, I posted the article that was on AOL. If you wanted more information I figured you were more than capable to go to edmunds and look for yourself. Nice to see you did that instead of just crying about it.

What's going on here, just a few months ago when I joined people weren't so bitter like yourself. That attitude is exactly what the mods and admin are talking about. Go have a beer or get laid or something man, cause obviously you really need it.

...anyway, it seems like the lowest resale goes to the cars with the biggest rental customers.

I'm not really sure why the Defender has a high resale...I think they might've had a low production number and a high demand...

that being said though, I want one. and not to take my kids to soccer practice either.

Poor Land Rover....so few people seem to realize the capablities of you.

Wow, look at you. Why did you get upset over my post? I'm just surprised only 2 people (including me) pointed out the lack of information. Your thread was titled "Best and worst residual value on new cars". You just provided the best top 10. I dont know about anyone else, but I was more interested in the worst segment.

Though I think it's more than that, maybe you think I mistreated a particular member and you don't like it. If that's the case, I don't apologize. Why? Well, why should I? I haven't said anything that would merit one. You claim all my posts are ***** moan ***** moan. To date, you're the only member that has made such an assertion towards me. I think you're just singling me out because I criticized one of your gf's posts. Generally, adults can speak for themselves and dont need their hands to be held.

I was under the impression that the Defenders were banned from being sold in the United States due to the fact that they didn't meet newer saftey standards, and that Land Rover didn't bother to re-engineer it to continue its sale in the US. That would definitely create low supply and high demand. Especially while they still (I think) continue to be made and sold elsewhere in the world.

hahaha You know kid.....as much as I've love to really get into it and own you....I won't. This kind of stuff is what the admin is talking about so I'll be short then leave it at that and allow you to continue to think what you wish. And for the record.....read my post, it lists the worst car and the 10 best ones. I covered both As for the stuff with my girlfriend you should be "adult" enough to behave yourself in a decent fashion behing a whole 18 years old. But this isn't what NICO is about. Imagine paying that much for a Land Rover, then having to pay for its maintenance.

There was an article in the local newspaper in the Driving section not too long ago talking about the high cost of maintenance on certain vehicles and Land Rover was towards the top in the SUV class. But then again if you can afford to drop the coin on one you should be able to afford to keep it running good lol

Yes, I bit.

No more condescending words from you, since you made the first heated post complaining about me. That's two-faced and you know it. Don't worry, I won't waste any calories emailing/iming you, as I usually take everything in this forum with a grain of salt.

Again, the thread title reads, "Best and worst residual value on new cars "

Yes, CARS is plural with "Best and Worst" associated with it. As it was shown, I wasn't the only one wondering what happned to the rest. Either do away with the ambiguous titles or don't be shocked with the next smart *** remark.

Oh, and I do believe I am behaving in a decent "adult" fashion, being 18 YEARS OLD!!! I'm a kid, and I enjoy behaving like one. Again, your gf is grown up and can speak for herself.

Everyone gets to respond to each other, so try not to take my posts personally or else it's nothing more than me calling you wrong and you calling me wrong then WHAM thread closed.
