what are you looking for? Comp, Coax, Midbass or Midrange. If you are looking for Midbass or Midrange, go with VIfa or Focal

Gonna have to go with Former_240 on this one. My alpine Type-R's sound sweet in my car. I only have the 5.35 components but my roomate has the 6.5 components and they sound even better.

Dude I just got back from Cartoys. Damn. MB Quarts sound really good and a lot of the installers like them.

I was thinking about going with the Alpine Type-R, now its definite from reading your opinions. Well atleast I'll get them for the rear.I talked to some salesmen at stores like Best Buy and Circuit City and they just gave me 50/50 chance that it will fit in my door panels, with its huge magnet and all. Anyone know if they will fit in the doors of my 96 Nissan 240SX ???

The install should not be a problem. You would be suprised at how much room the 240 has.

Personally I like the Infinity Reference series 6-1/2" component set I have in my front doors. I saved allot by buying last years model instead of brand new ones. I think I paid only $75 for the whole set. Infinity Reference series coaxials and component speakers do NOT provide good bass at all. They must be used in conjunction with a subwoofer to get good full tonal quality. The sound on the Reference speakers are super clear and crisp sounding. They include a silk dome tweeter to get rid of the harshness that you get with plastic and metallic tweeters.

Of course they sound good, they have the best high range I've heard out of any speakers I think:ylsuper , besides the fact that they're not a budget item.

MB Quarts seem to have a very forward presentation to them. A little too harsh for my taste, however when I heard the Q system with 75w x 2 from Tube Driver amplifers, they were clear and sounded incredible. (Tubes have a tendancy to give a "warmer" sound than conventional amps.)

See I haven't really seen anything good about memphis. A lot of my friends like them because they say that all the speakers are made in the same factory and that there really isn't a difference. Yeah but there is. They don't sound that good. Memphis is just ok but I do prefer infinity or MB Quart

MB Quarts are a bit a harsh. As are the vaunted Focal Utopias. However, Focals have superior clarity over anything I've heard. As for as high's go, I like the natural sound of Dynaudio's but their component sets suffer in the midbass dept. IMO, CDT HD's are the some of the best sounding 6.5's, especially considering their only real competition (Focal Utopias) by almost $200. Another good bang for the buck set of speakers are the DEI's.

I posted this in another thread. But a lot of my friends are blowing their infinity kappas with amps that can't get to the peak wattage. The amps matched the speakers perfectly in rms and everything else. But they still blew them. Also for you people that like components speakers. Audiobahn has their removable tweeters that you can mount anywhere or keep it on the speaker. Plus they can handle a lot of power and they sound really good at high volumes. But I think I can predict what yall are going to say. Yall are going to say they sound too harsh.

digital designs 6.5 is cheap and can help out in the midbass department.qsd's by mbq are good, the tweets are 400.00.thats what i use.if you use a processosor the quarts are very tamable.the passive crossovers suck big time,at -6db on the tweet they still enduce listener fatique.since i got rid of all the passive bullsh9t i never blew another speak.your speaker is o nly as good as the install.if your running an i.b. setup in your doors at least line the door panel with plumbers duct wrap,3 bucks a roll.its thin green matt w/aluminum skin.will warm up the sound insulate and cut down on noise passing thru door.infiniti refs are what i run in my 200sx.hey jeff, going to any shows this year.

hey not sure if these count cause they are kinda in a different category, the the AVI Tri-Star components are absolutely amazing. 3-way components made straight out of Richmond, BC, Canada... yea yeah represent! :D apparently these components can hit about 120db with no distortion!! anyways you guys prolly haven't heard of em so here's the link:

http://www.avisound.com

the Tri-Star components go for about $2500 CDN, so about $1600 US, a bit pricey... the link to their review is in the "News" link, then go to the Auto Sound & Security review of them...

I got some Polk Momo's 6.5 seperates in my Q. Sound great...I have an alpine amp pushing 40 watts RMS, and I feel like I need a little more juice going to them.....
