I am going to be putting some M45 Sport rims onto my Q45 assisted by some spacers...so I don't drive the Q that much anymore so I figure this tire purchase will last 5 years or so.

I was just about sold on the Bridgestone 050A 98W which is the high load rating in WR for about 290 per tire. Than as I was browsing around i found the Goodyear F1-GS D3 in 98Y so they are YR. Looks like both would be a good choice, I have recently put my first pair of Goodyears ever onto my X-Terra (Fortera Kevlar) and I love them. Also looking at the Michelin Pilot sports as well in 98 load, so all have great load factors for the heavy Q.

I was always pretty much a Bridgestone guy but the Michelins or Goodyears seem like a bit better choice....leaning to the Goodyears even though they are 300 bones per tire, what do you think? BTW, called tire rack and the guy "Jeff" had never heard of NICO and was not much help so I didn't buy.

Opinions, I like to drive spirited obviously or I'd be on the Prius forum.

Jeff

I work at a merchant's tire and let me set the record straight: goodyear's suck balls!!! Michelin's are probably going to be the best bet. I might put pilot sport a/s's on me 240sx, cause it snows here. But the ps2 cup? (I think that's right) is beast. Since you don't care about price what about something from the yokohama advan line?

Im more into the 240sx aspect of tires, so 19's are pretty foreign to me. However, Im sure our tirerack guru Blake can help you out.

Heres his contact info, hope he can [email protected] Or 1-800-981-3782 Ext 621

After doing some research on your tire size, I came across the new Falken FK452. They seem to cater to the VIP luxury performance crowd, which seems to be right up your alley. The 245/40/19 also comes in a 98Y load rating, so you should be good. Tirerack doesnt carry Falken though, so they might be biased against them if you end up talking to Blake.

Heres a link to the site...http://www.fk452.com

Just to be sure, you don't need an "all-season" tire do you? No chance of you seeing any snow is there?

Also, the Goodyear F1's are pretty good tire, the RSA's are crap, but don't write off the whole line.

Here's a few tires I've had (in smaller sizes), but liked the overall performance (in no particular order)

Summer Performance tiresContinental - SportContact 2 - 245/40 ZR19 98Y XL with rim protectionBridgestone - Potenza RE 050 A - 245/40 R19 98W XLBridgestone - Potenza S-03 Pole Position - 245/40 R19 98Y

Never had these, but have heard very good things about them.Michelin - Pilot SPORT PS2 - 245/40 ZR19 98Y EL Rim-protectionGoodyear - EAGLE F1 GS-D3 - 245/40 ZR19 98Y BSW

All these are going to be in the $300 a piece range online.

Rex, have you heard anything about the new FK's? As much marketing and advertising that Falken has pumped into the new line, Im assuming they are worth the buy.

Everything I've seen/read seems to indicate they may be a good tire, but the ones I listed above either I've had or someone I know has used them, so I consider "first/second hand" opinions more reliable. Not to say the FK's aren't a quality tire, I just don't know anyone that's used them.

I would also take into consideration VIP usually doesn't equate to spirited driving, which he referenced in his initial post.

I stand by it, although, mainly people usually don't rotate, balance, or keep their cars aligned, so maybe the data is skewed? I've put f1's on a couple of 'Vettes and I've never seen the people again, so that's either very good or very bad. And just recently, I put b'stones on a g35 coupe with what appeared to be factory 19" forged alloys and when I took it for a test drive it was little slick and I went sideways out of the parking lot!! So yeah, tires are a personal choice, you can always go with what you know.

PS2 (I absolutely love my 255/40-18 and I am getting good wear at 10K miles) or the Goodyear F1.

Read the tire posts sticky in Infiniti General.

But aren't those going to be a little tall?

Best not to skimp on the tires since it is the only part of the car in contact with the road. If you stop 10 or 15 sooner and don't touch the car in front of you, how much is that worth?

On your tire decisions. Unfortunately I just got my Q a few months ago so I can't give direct comment on this car. I can say GY Eagle F-GS-D3's are awesome!!!! I don't care what the other guy said, my experience was awesome. I had them on my 2000 Maxima GLE. The GLE is the top of the line "luxury' model, not the sporty SE. My car drove more crisply than my 3000GT VR4. I'm not exxagerating. I had those Nexen N3000 tires on my VR4, and I do regret that. But the handling on my Maxima was ridiculous with the F1Gs-D3 tires. And in the rain the tire was brilliant; never hydroplaned, never lost control, and sometimes it felt like it wasn't even raining. and the best part was wet weather braking. In rainy Seattle, that was particularly important. The only cars the GY F1gs-d3's don't like are corvettes. I don't know whay, but everytime I've encountered a vette driver who had those tires, they hated them. I bought Kumho Eksta SPT's for my current Q. I have 245/35-20's and these are great, but clearly not the best. I didn't want to bay $1200.000 for tires this time.

Good luck.

Thanks, this thread took some time to get going but this is good stuff. I bought the Bridgestone 050 but went with a 35 series instead of 40, they had them on close-out in that size with a 93 load rating, I woudl have liked the 98 load rating but instead of 1250 I paid 640 delivered!

No snow, that is what my X-Terra is for and when I'm in snow the skis are on the car, god bless the west coast!

Well, as a tire guy I'm sure you realize that tires need about a 500 mile or so break-in, right? When they come out of the mold from the factory they have a coating on them that helps them to not stick to the mold and it takes a bit for it to wear off.

that would be the goop that gets all over your hands when it's wet, and why they seem to shine like waxed fruit when they're new or maybe it was just my bad steering and to much throttle...anyways, wasn't trying to thread jack, just trying to relate some info...i think you'll be good with the choice of b'stones, it's a good tire, i wasn't trying to say it wasn't, if i wasn't getting such a good deal on michelin's, i'd have gone with those.

I have the SO3 Pole Positions on my 300zx and they the best tires I have ever had. My friend put them on his Boxster and also said the same thing, Bridgestone makes very good tires when you get their high end. The first 500 miles for me is always best done on a trip from SF to LA or the vice versa and than your ready to go. My Goodyear Fortera on my X-Terra also needed this breakin and now they are way better than the BF Goodrich the truck came with.
