what are some of the lil things i can do to the motor while i have it out. I may buy the motor and build it up for a couple of months. I want to have it ready to go for spring next year.

but besides forged internals...what else can i change to make the engine safe for about 15-20psi? Also...are forged internals plug and play or is there much more stuff to be done than just puttin on new rods and pistons?

I've been readin this forum allover and people talk about forged internals but no one has told any stories about installing them.

talk to me pros....tell me what u found out.

thank u all

ps....engine would be and rb20 or rb25 and maybe a sr20...lol sorry i had to throw that in...lol

uhh, possibly a metal head gasket... better turbo for that PSI.. bigger injectors for that PSI.. something to control those injectors.. a fuel pump so you can feed those injectors.. an intercooler so that the engine's air won't be about 400 degrees... uhh...

but as far as the engine itself goes... the metal headgasket would be good.. change the belts, also maybe new water pump and oil pump.

As far as the forged internals go.. if you get oversized pistons the cylinders will need to be bored out to fit that.. also do install forged internal you (obviously) have to dismantle your engine.. if that is a task you feel comfortable /w.. then installing the new pistons/rods should be a snap. you might as well replace bearings and seals if needed while the engine is apart. If you get the correct ones it is probably no more difficult than changing the pistons and rods. I really don't know yet man.. I'm sure someone who does will answer this thread... **** I'd like to just get my engine.. hopefully soon... otherwise I'll prolly be building up a KA.

Right now I'm doing this:*Forged* 87.5mm Ross Pistons, rings, pinsBored blockPolished rodsAll gaskts ,seals and bearings replacedARP rod bolts and head studs1.6mm head gasketpower enterprise super strong timing belt----Installing forged parts isn't plug and play. You need to mic all your parts. It isn't cheap either.

FOR 15-20 PSI, RB20DET:

GET FORGED STANDARD PISTONS (OVERBORE IF WALLS ARE BAD)TAKE YOUR RODS AND HAVE THEM SHOT PEEN'DGET GOOD WRISTPINS AND PISTON RINGSDON'T USE A THICKER GASKET JUST GET A COPPER REPLACEMENTUPGRADE YOUR INJECTORS TO A MINIMUM OF 400CCPORT MATCH THE HEADCHANGE THE CAM TO ALITTLE LONGER DURATIONCHANGE/UPGRADE ALL GASKETS/SEALS/AND SILICONE SEALSUPGRADE THE TIMING BELTUPGRADE ACCESSORY BELTSALSO CHANGE TO STUDS FOR ALL MAIN BOLTS

THE ONLY THING WITH INTERNALS ARE PISTONS NEED TO BE PRESSED ONTO THE RODS WITH THE WRIST PINS. AND YOU MAY NEED TO HONE THE WALLS OF THE CYLINDER IF THERE IS SCUFFING/GROOVING. OHH AND MAKE SURE AFTER ANY INTERNAL CHANGES YOU GET THE MOTOR BLUEPRINTED AND BALANCED, IT WILL PROLONG THE LIFE OF THE MOTOR, INCREASE POWER, AND KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING SMOOTH.

It'll be a long time from now, mid next year, but I will be throwing more than 20psi at my RB20 with just a head gasket and head studs for engine mods. I have access to cheap motors, if I can wait a few months, so I want to see just how far one of these can be pushed.

Forgot an important part: what turbo are you going to use to push 15-20psi?

The only thing I can add to the list is a balance job, but that’s an easy 2 grand:(

I'll be going with a T3/T04E 50 trim and rather large exhaust housing

I guess what im asking is ....if i get forged internals...can i put them in myself or is there alot of adjusting and (machine-ing..spelling sorry...lol) to do and a mechanic has to do it?

the pistons need to be pressed onto the rods, you should at least balance ifnot balance and blueprint. so yes you can do it yourself if you know how and have the tols to do so.

How good are you with a micrometer? Clearances go into the ten-thousandths (0.0001").
