Well, I bought my 240 a few months back. The owner said it was bent valves but i don't think he was sure. What are the symptoms of this? And how can i tell? If it is bent valves what will it cost me to fix?

do compression check, if you hear air comin out of the valves then yeah you have bent valves, and if thats it then you better hope the head itself isn't damaged or the block(or pistons)

Your friend is talking about a simple valve adjustment for a hydraulic valvetrain similar to a Honda.

KA24DE's have mechanical setups. You have to re-shim the head in order to adjust the lash.

A real valve job would cost a good amount of money to do; as it requires a number of manhours to complete disassembly and reassembly plus machining of the head components themselves.

If you had bent valves your car wouldn't idle or run smooth at all. The only way for a KA to have bent valves is if it floated a valve or the timing chain jumped. Which case the engine would barely run if the timing was off that much.

Please type out messages like you care... nothing annoys me more than someone who shortens words (dat, u, mah, etc.) and doesn't take the time to properly spell the word. It's an expression of your character, and I personally don't want to sound like an uneducated, illiterate ghetto punk.

Well, my car doesn't start at all. I don't think it even turns over when i try to start it. Some tells me it's maybe the timing chain

Is your battery charged? Do you get funky grinding noises coming from your starter and nothing else?

Well the previous owner did tell me the timing jumped , thus causing the bent valves...

Or just a used valvetrain and a new timing chain setup. KA top ends pop up in the classifieds every so often on here and they tend to be a little cheaper than an entire motor but not by a whole lot. If I remember correctly I've seen them around 200-250. That's with the head.

If the timing chain jumped then, yeah, you most likely have a bent valve.
