Well, I had a piece of metal stuck in the teeth of my timing chain. So I took it to my local mechanic to get it replaced. Comes to find out, I have bent valves and its going to cost over $1300 to get it fixed. Is there any simple fixes for this or something!!!!

I DONT WANT TO PAY $1300

I HAVE TO GO TO COLLEGE!!!!

Hehe a simple fix for one of the worst case scenarios in engine failure.

Like said up above, you just need to buy a 150-400 dollar engine(ka) and swap it in yourself. Its not that hard, you can rent an engine hoist and the tools.

Or, just pull the head off the engine, and send it to a machine shop and tell them to fix it. Prolly cost you like 300 and you'll have a nice newish head. Then spend 200 on a timing chain kit and you'll be good to go. Assuming your bottom end is in decent shape.

Thats the thing.

They said the could do that, but, I would eventually run into problems in the future for having 190,xxx miles on the bottom and brand new Head.

If it was me I would get the head repaired and the Timing chain kit installed. I would just hold off on hte bottom end for now. I would start saving up my money for lower end parts and install them as soon as I could afford it.

Ask around to see if anybody in your area recently did an engine swap and has their old engine for sale cheap.

If your going to pull the heads off the car you might as well rebuild the lower end while your at it. Just not worth it to go through all the work of putting on a new head to a very used bottom end when you have the chance to rebuild it. You can get an OEM rebuild kit pretty cheap.

Still easier/cheaper to pick up an engine somewhere within a few hundred miles of you and swap it in yourself.

Pulling the head is easy, and can be done with minimal tools. Pulling the engine for a rebuild requires a hoist or at least some creative thinking. Plus it is extra money. His problem is in the head, the bottom end could be in decent shape especially if it wasn't burning oil.

Send the head out, have them do what they need to do and install a timing chain kit. You'll probably end up with a valve job and some good cleaning. It'll be nicer than any junk yard head you'll find. Plus the timing components are all new. I'd also get some ARP head studs.

Way better than a junk engine and for a comparable price.

This is all assuming you do the removal and installation yourself, otherwise $1300 sounds about right.

Eventually you will run into problems with 190k on the bottom... but that would be eventually? When that happens you can build that.
