Hey guys, I recently purchased a halfway completed RB20 swap into an S13. Kid said he got the engine in, but gave up on the wiring. There are a few concerns, but the price was right. First off, the oil pan looks like it's dented. Nothing hideously bad, but enough to worry me. Sorry for the lousy picture...

Does this need to be replaced?

Also, there is quite a bit of rust in the coolant lines. Can I just replace the water pump and flush the cooling system like crazy, or is this a sign of a bigger problem?

Finally, I'm missing a bunch of bolts and isolators for the valve covers. Any idea where I could get these?

Thanks for looking!

Iron Oxide (Rust) is common. It's Cast Iron..

Contact Darius about a set of his rocker cover isolator / bolt sets. I have one. They are awesome.

I'm not sure about the oil pan. It may impede flow, but I really am not sure.

Welcome to the RB world.I can't really see the severity of the dent on the oil pan from the angle of the pic you took.I'd just buy a coolant flush kit and clean the whole system out, very easy. What stumped him in the wiring? That was the easiest part.

If you take the oil pan off get " the good stuff " gasket maker at NAPA it's a little pricey but you can tell its really good quality stuff as soon as you start laying the stuff down. good luck !

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to avoid dropping the pan, mostly 'cause I'm lazy. But if I do, I'll look for that "good stuff."

I saw Darius listing those screws/isolators in the classifieds but couldn't find an email address for him. Hopefully he'll see this...

One more question, the transmission sensors are still all RB parts, and I don't have a KA trans to pull from. I have both the KA and RB lower harnesses, and was planning on using the KA one. I don't need the sensors to get the engine running, right? Obviously I won't have a speedo or reverse lights, but will it freak out without a neutral position switch?

Thanks again.

Darius's email should be in his profile. *edit* It's his old address, I'll tell him to check this and get a hold of you.

Inquire with SteveSpeed as to the 'need' of a VSS..

I would highly suggest the use of the lower harness before attempting to turn my motor over.

If you click on the username on any post, it should show you the information that user chooses to divulge. Let me know if my e-mail address is not showing up for some reason. I've got nothing to hide (mattkasper22 at m_s_n dot com)

Ahhh, I see. I had clicked the Z Profile button rather than your user name...

I did a search for posts created by SteveSpeed, but nothing relevant came up. Care to divulge what happened?

I am using the majority of the lower harness. The only things not connected are the transmission sensors.

I thought he posted it.. well, he had several issues.

When finalizing his lower harness, he left the neutral-safety-switch un-hooked. "Does that matter" Answer: YES, YES IT DOES. *while on phone* crimp-crimp-solder-plugin ding-ding (chime)

then -VROOOM! RB Goodness!

I believe there was an utterance of '.. I love you man!'

I got a good laugh out of it.

Hahahaha, nice! Thanks for the story. Guess I gotta go find some sensors...
