I was just wondering if anyone could help me expand my options here. I just bent my brand new Borbet rim (less than a month old) by hitting one of South Louisiana's notorious potholes (is it fair to call a 6ft crater in the road a hole?). The rim cost me $105 from http://www.Tirerack.com . My options right now are:

1) buy a new rim from tirerack.com and pay shipping all over again. BUT the rim is backordered so who knows when i will get it.2) go complain to my insurance company and claim it under comprehensive (i have no deductible there). Still, new rim will be backordered, i wont pay for it, but will my insurance go up for claiming under comprehensive?3) anyone know if bent rims can be fixed? anyone had a similar problem?

Im so mad right now i could puke.

I'm sure you can get it fixed (if it isn't bent really bad) I know some of my friends had some bends in their rims because of potholes... they just went to a rim shop and got it fixed for pretty cheap...

No it wont hold air. I had to put my doghnut spare on the front and limp home at 55mph on the interstate. The tire is fine, just wont seat on the wheel.

I heard of this happening to someone on the rx7 forum.

If you file a complaint to your city, they may pay for your rim to be fixed or a new rim if that's the case. If you can prove you were driving on their roads when it happened, you can probably get a new rim.

don't forget about everything else that probably happened to your car if you hit something crazy enough to bend a rim. alignment, and all kinds of suspension parts are most likely out of whack and need replacing.

That happened to my mother, she hit a pothole in CT and it killed the tire she filed a claim with the state and about a year later she got reimbursed for the tire she had to buy to replace it.

So there is a way to get your money back, it just takes a while.Good Luck.

hey man this may be a good excuse to get some suspension work done on your car. say it screwed the whole suspension up and you need new springs and shocks and rims and tires and whatever else you want. that might not work but hey, you might as well try and get some free stuff.

hehe nice try but everything currently ON my suspension is brand new! Only thing i want right now are sway bars and a Nismo Power Bar 2 from jsepc.com! Im going to my insurance company today and seeing what they can do. Still, if i have to buy a new wheel, wether i pay for it or someone else does, its BACKORDERED meaning i have NO idea when i will get it.

Just FYI hitting a pothole is considered COLLISION even tho there was no other car involved. My insurance deductible is $100 for collision, but the wheel is $105. I went to House of Hubcaps to see if they repair wheels, the guy took a look at it and quoted me $100 to repair it. So i just ordered a new one from tirerack.com.

man that sucks. some crazy old lady ran me off the road and I bent my rim jumping the sidewalk at 45mph. I took it to the local machine shop and they fixed it for $30.00. Don't know how bad yours is messed up but I'd take it in so I'd have a nice spare at least.

Im tellin ya, its all an evil plot carried out by rabid raccoons. The pot holes are just booby traps. First they take out our tires, then our trash, then.....the world.

Anyways, that sucks, ya had to buy a new tire, but ya paid for it last night with that last minute sale. So, what are you gonna do with the bent rim? I know this cool seance we can do that would give everyone who had part in the manufacuring of that rim a strong case of diaper rash. Maybe we'll save that one for Eibach.

Hmmmm...goober...isnt that a chocolate covered peanut? It feels good to rise above all the rest of the candy coated peanuts of the world. Raising the standard for peanut products everyday.
