I live in the North East and keep my car in the garage year round.

Although it's nice to get into a relatively warm car in the winter, are there any other benefits to keeping a car in the garage ?

Does it make it last any longer ?

Agreed... I hate washing my car and come out to kitty prints on it in the morning, or dust, pollen and not to mention... possible vandalism!

In AZ your car would be gone and on its way down to Mexico if you left it out overnight. If you have to leave it out overnight get a Viper alarm that will page you when its triggered and a 44 magnum. Its a Saturday class to get your conceled carry permit and our cops like the castle law.

Rain and snow, tree sap, animal damage especially bird crap, wind blown debris including falling trees, vandalism and theft. The only disadvantage is that chemical reactions like rusting go faster as the temperature increases. Get your car washed (especially underneath) often during the winter.

Jeff is totally right here... the bird crap and kitty prints can wash off, but Arizona has one of the highest rates of car theft/vandalism/car jacking. I personally prefer the .45 model 1911... the only wear you get with that is having to clean the car thief's $hit out of the seat 'cause when he get's that cold barrel in his ear, trust me, he'll $hit his pants!

the 1911 is a great gun and it looks scary! I like 40 cal the best but 44 has great stopping power I you can hit your target. If not the noise and muzzle flash alone will send them running.

typical AZ 911 call.

911 whats your emergency. I just shot and killed someone breaking into my house/car/trailer (Apache Junction ) can you send someone to pick up the corpse? Yes sir right away

In AZ if you kill someone on your property the only thing the police take is a statment. The cop may even shake your hand

Me and my neighbor 2 houses down saw someone trying to break into the house across the street and we chased them but they got away. The police told us we couldn't shoot them unless they were on our property

It's definitely a good idea to get a concealed carry permit. Even if you don't plan to carry often, the educational process is well worthwhile. You need to know what is legal and what is not.

Self defense is a two stage process. The first stage is surviving the fight. The second is surviving the investigation afterward. If you don't dot the 'I's and cross the 'T's properly, it could destroy the rest of your life.

A New Hampshire police officer named Massad Ayoob teaches self defense classes here and there across the country. Google his name for some interesting reading.

Right your have to be able to prove deadly force was your only reasonable coarse of action. And then the 'victims' family starts their wrongful death civil suit. Ten years later your stealing back your heisman trophy in a Los Vegas hotel room.

I always carry a Kbar lock blade that I don't mind parting with in the 'right' situation.

I agree that this is going in the wrong direction

There are some that need to chill. We are all driving an expensive car but not everyone on the roads these days are great drivers. People do make mistakes and s3it does happen. Most or all of the vehicles we are driving today will be gone for something else in a few years. Most vehicles are depreciating pieces of metal that can be easily repaired in a minor fender bender or sold in case of a serious accident.

Threatening or killing someone for damage to a vehicle is not only immature but real stupid. Does anyone really want to spend perhaps the rest of their life involved with perhaps criminal and civil court proceedings because of some damage to a vehicle?

Carry a cell phone and perhaps a camera and leave weapons out of your vehicle.

Think about it!

Just my opinion

The internet is just an avenue for verbal expression & entertainment....I don't take much of it very seriously.

That's why I suggested a concealed carry permit and Massad Ayoob's class. They will teach you not to do that.

A cell phone is great but what do you do while you wait for the police to arrive? In the example where my neighbor and I stopped some punks from breaking into our other neighbors house the police took 30 min to get there and did a drive by. They didn't even stop to take a statment from me and my neighbor. Our neighbor is elderly and was home what would have happened if we wouldn't have stopped them?

Everyone has a right to defend themselves and their property. I think if more people carried a weapon along with that cell phone crime would decrease. You don't have to actually shoot someone for your gun to keep you from being a victim. You just have to be willing to stand up for yourself.

Stepping off my soap box,

Jeff

^^ Im with this guy, im part of law enforcement so i carry everyday im at work. If people were more willing to stand up for themselves and protect what is thiers theft/vandalism would decrease sooo much, im not saying shoot everyone who comes on your property but i taught my wife to shoot and if she knows if someone is going to break into a house then they know what theyre getting themselves into and she wont sit around and wait until someone has theyre way untill something has to be done. She will shoot someone if she has to and what ive learned is having a gun pulled on you is twice as bad as getting shot.
