I wanna know the benfits of double clutching, cuz I'm learning right now. and its actually slowing me down (I guess its because as I said, I'm still learning).

It's slowing you down because it is not required unless you are driving a dump truck or an ancient car with no syncros in the gearbox.Just shift.:)

eh I find it useful for downshifting-- it makes the acceleration smoother if you dont just dump the clutch in at the wrong RPM

that's what heel-toeing is for...

if you match revs then you wont loose your rear wheels (at high speed)

I do heel-toe, it is beneficial. Driving a car with a powerband the width of a pube will teach you the importance of staying in it!:(

I was just talking about that...what is it 5500 to 6800 -7000? I was just riding in my friends new 24v VW, chasing down 3 cars from the gumball rally. I need to stay out of cars like that, I end up feeling bad. BTW anyone recommend some pedals? Tried to get some OMP's but no dice...

like a volvo?

yeah my friend is learning to drift his volvo hahaha

he's not that bad considering he's got all of 150hp or so... and an open diff...

anyways...i learn as he learns...it's pretty funny

why pedals?

if my pedals were any bigger i wouldnt be able to step on them independently...

some cars have the pedals spaced far apart which makes heel-toe driving difficult, some are inherently slippery as well.

Mine are quite old and slippery...the way I heel toe is not like I've seen some do, especially with the drift vidoes where the foot is diagonal pointing towards the steering colum with the ball of the foot on the brake and the heal jabbing the gas...I just have half my foot on the brake (big toe) and then roll it over on to the gas (pinky toe).

yeah my friend was joking to me...he says

yeah, we have to heel toe this way beacuase those japanese and their impish little feet can actually heel-toe with their actual heels and toes...

the best way i found out is use the ball/arch of your foot for brake...heel/toe for accelerator

whichever is more comfortable for you

do it InitialD style!!! yeah!!!...just make sure u wear a size 7 or below haha

heh size 7...anyway we are talking about toe/heel downshifts right? because doing up shifts that way is retarded. definatly ff style. toe/heel down shifts keep your momentum up and is easier on your clutch. like someone said earlier it keeps your tail under control. just pratice in a parking lot. you will get a feel for it. try running 3rd out braking, downshifting to 2nd both ways and see which helps you the most.

My next door neighbors car is the only one I've ever been in where you actually have to double clutch. It's a 1930's ford so it doesn't have a syncro. It's kinda cool in a low-tech rustic sort of way.

I think the only benefit of double clutching in a modern car is it might extend the life of your transmission, since it gets the gears turning the same speed so they don't mesh as hard when you let the clutch out. I dunno if double clutching is gunna do any better than a syncro can though. Like these guys have said, it probably helps most for downshifting.

i have to double clutch downshifting into 1st. I guess 93 240sx doesnt have a synchro on first gear.

Heh...I once beat a 350z driven by some stupid kid because he crunched 2nd. He said he was still trying to learn to double shift in it. I wanted to beat him like a redheaded stepchild. Poor car.

double shift?

what is that?

haha anyways...yeah some people make me laugh...is it true that if you give it a lil gas while shifting you'll go faster?

I am imfamous for the 2-5 shift, raaaaaaaa, wo,oo,oo "WTF? Oh no not again"!:( I once went from third and almost got it all the way in reverse. That transmission was never the same and reverse was MIA for two months:rolleyes

Hehe, I was in my brother's celica one night and I tried to start it in second on a steep a$$ hill. Took me 4 times and I finally made it, then noticed it wasn't in 1st about half way up the hill. Moral of the story: Sleep deprivation is bad.

hehe, 2nd to 5th...i test drove a 300zx before i got the 240..note that i could barely drive a standard to start with, i did that about 4 times...havent done it in my 240 yet, i guess the gears are set a bit better...that and i learned that you dont have to go up-right-up, you can just go at a diagonal....now starting in third...done that a few times...expecially the first day i had the 240...and what the heck is heel-toeing? other than something that sounds vaguely x rated?

using the toe to apply the brakes while using the heel to keep the revs up as you go into a corner. I guess some people reverse it with the heel on the brake toe on the gas but I don't bend that way.

:D I managed to download almost 7 gigs of options videos and the like from some dude on Direct Connect (great file sharing program) and when you watch the camera of their feet the pedals look frickin giant. My problem is that my feet are too big for that stuff but not quite big enough to manage my little "roll over" technique without slipping off the brake sometimes, which is not good. So who did their pedals, dammit?!?

just work on the "heel-clobber"

just try what they do but dont bend as much...you'll end up "toe-arching" it but it should work as well...

I just got done road testing it after some alignment and mushy arse all season tires (getting ready for a Jersey winter) and I really need about a half inch more brake pedal to the right, then it would be just right for me

make your own pedal covers out of aluminum. Cover it with grip tape like on skateboards, slot the holes in it so you can adjust the distance between the plate and you gas pedal, remove the rubber cover and drill holes in your brake pedal, use nuts on the back with carriage bolts upside and ta-freakin-da!!:thinker Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Show them off and make more ricers will snap them up for "for the look dog" wheras you will actually use them for a function purpose.

heel-to-toe driving for me is a biotch, i wear a 14Wide, however, it does make it easy to cover both pedals, i just dont get to much room to let go of the brake

Guess what--I just revived this thread because I felt the need to revive it because it was one of my first threads. Ahh memories.
