Hi guys,

Working on performing the 17 SL -> 18 SL OEM radio upgrade with the wiring harness splice. Problem is...the car I'm trying to do is not currently present with me. I've got an 18 radio on my bench and I hooked up +12, GND + ignition and auto ACC to the radio but alas it shows its drawing an amp of power but not actually lighting up. Does this radio need the M-CAN or V-CAN to be present to boot up? Is there a power apply procedure to get it to light up?

Thanks,

I assume you're working on navis and not display audio. To my knowledge, no, it shouldn't need a CAN signal (although I could be wrong, there's no FSM reference to verify that behavior). However, the Ign and Acc inputs are in completely different places on the '17 and '18 navis. On the '17's Ign is on pin 40 of the big connector and Acc is on pin 7 of the big connector. On '18's Ign is on pin 17 of the small connector and Acc is on pin 44 of the big connector. On both of them Acc is a signal from the BCM, while Ign comes from the fusebox.

I hit the ignition and BCM line. It seems to have some boot up procedure where it takes about an amp for a minute or so. I can keep it on by making it play a CD. No display what so ever. Also when the ignition line is present: it wakes up from deep sleep to this like half awake mode ~120mA for 5 seconds and the V-CAN bus starts sending random s***, then it goes to sleep again.....I also know the 18 radio uses V-CAN for illumination and other s***.

Ive got the 17 and 18 FSM wiring + adapter made so yeah correct pins 44 for ACC and 17 for IGN on 18

Also yeah it's a. 18 Navi w/ Bose.

If it's playing CD's but won't light up, I'd suspect the display is bad. The 17's and '18's are both CAN-connected but on completely different pins. The '17's are on 8 and 12 of the small connector, the '18's are on 21 and 41 of the big connector.

Yeah, I can press the forward and back track buttons on the front panel, and you can clearly hear the drive responding and going to the next track. I don't hear any sound output.

Power button and other stuff does nothing. Could be bad display. I removed and reconnected the entire front panel yesterday but no change. Maybe I'll disassemble the front panel and see if any issues with the display??

I see a bunch of units on eBay with just power wires going to the back and it's on.

Also for note: I don't have a car to test on. It's my parents and they don't live close to me.

And isn't it 8 and 17 not 8 and 12?

I had a headunit apart from a 2017-SL Rogue with a Bose. Here is a picture of the back of the LCD screen. Not sure if this is the same as yours.

The best price I have found on this SHARP display is here on AliExpress.
