bench bleeding question...

i had to change my calipers and when i plugged the lines with these banjo plugs i got from autozone. long story short most all the fluid leaked out the mc and it got air in it. the only thing i really want to know is if i have to bench bleed it or can i just attach some hoses routed back in the resevoir and pump it till its clear. this is what i did and then bled the brakes and the pedal engages real low which points to air. i was just going to re-bleed all the calipers with a partner but now im wondering if i should bench bleed it or was my method satisfactory....the only flaw in it is the piston may not go all the way in but i would think it would be ok. please let me know if anyone has any suggestions.luigi

What's bench bleeding?

I think you should get speedbleeders. It's a one way check valve that replaces your stock bleeder valves, so air/fluid goes out, and nothing goes back in. It's about $15 for a set of two. :)

ok i have a question about bench bleeding a master cylinder as opposed to bleeding it on the car. bench bleeding, as the name suggests, is done on a bench, not car. i have no problem bleeding at the calipers.luigi

I think you're fine to bleed them on the car. I can't imagine a non-ABS system being hard to bleed even being bone dry.

You don't need to bench bleed our MC's. The only MC I know of that requires bench bleeding (and works on our cars) is the 15/16" from an S12.

the only reason i could think of why it woulnt fully bleed on the car is if the piston didnt get pushed in all the way with the pedal. all i did was really bleed the brakes good by hand and it worked fine. i just think that the handpump (mightyvac) and the cheap bottle and magnet are just crap. i did it with both and the pedal feel was really low and only firmed after several re-bleeds. it took one hour tops with a friend and the brakes were bled and my clutch at the same time. turned out great. i now get pressure after like a 1/2" of movement.i looked into speed bleeders (per crazycav)which i have heard are good and larger pumping systems that would mount to the master cylinder and push fluid through. i would assume the pump works good but i have tried neither. i think i might try the speed bleeders next year. anyone attest to them beside cav? luigi
