John Allen Muhammad was convicted of masterminding the shooting rampage that killed 10 people in the Washington area in 2002. He is to be put to death Tuesday.

Reporting from Washington - The Supreme Court today cleared the way for the execution of Beltway sniper John Allen Muhammad.

Scheduled for execution Tuesday evening in Virginia, Muhammad was convicted of masterminding the sniper-shooting rampage that terrorized the Washington area in the fall of 2002. Sixteen people were shot, and 10 of them died.

The justices turned down a final emergency appeal from Muhammad's lawyers claiming that he deserved more time to develop his appeals.

Three justices -- John Paul Stevens, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor -- added a statement saying they were troubled that Virginia did not give convicts one year to file their federal appeals, as set in federal law.

But they also said that they saw no reason in Muhammad's case to stop the execution.

Take a close look at the Justices who are wringing their hands over this guy's "appeal schedule" and ask yourself what their motivation is...

When a case is open/shut like this one, there's no need to waste our time, money and resources.

Load the needle, give his stuff to the needy and toss him in an incenerator... Done.

Usually you're dead before you get the death needle when they give you the super strong anesthesia, so it really doesn't matter.

School got closed down for a couple days but it wasn't enjoyable because 10 people died to make it happen. Sniping innocent unarmed/unaware people is very cowardly. Id cut off their eyelids and feed them sleeping pills whilst i roasted his intestine over a spit for him to watch until death took over him. Then throw a party on his unmarked grave. Still wouldn't feel justified.
