The dealer is telling me my belts need replacing as they have cracks. I can see the cracks and agree I may as well replace them, but not for $300. I'm comfortable enough to do it myself, so looks like two belts I'll be replacing. Anyone know the model number? any recommended brand to stick with?

Yeah...$300 does sound a little too steep. I just had my belts replaced for $200. Another dealership quoted me for $225.

By model number, do you mean part # ?

don't know about 08 and up but i did it on my 06 which i believe is the same for 07 M35 and the cost is no where near 200. max 1 hour of doing the labor yourself with the help from the FSM and part even using OEM is about 50 bucks at best.

correcting myself....dealership had done it for $200. Second dealership quoted me $225.

Doing it yourself is another story.

I had them changed at least 3 times at the dealership ( under warranty ) for premature wear...Oem belts are not the best quality , noisy and wear out too fast.. get the goodyear gatorbacks both for under $60 if you are doing it yourself.

I just changed mine about 3 months ago: used Goodyear Poly-V belts (good reviews and seemed to be of better quality than the OEM ones they replaced.)
Outer one was no problem from above just took a few minutes--people have said you can change the inner one from the top as well...that was a whole other story

no way for me, cuz it was a pain in the *ss--it was a pretty tight fit trying to slip it on from down below, don't know if it would have been easier using OEM belts (if the belt had been a millimeter or two longer, would have been tons easier to slip it on, but would it loosen up quicker? idk.) Removing the bottom panel cover in the front was a pain as well...there's like 21 bolts. Prolly took me about 30-40 minutes total to finish the job.

but i changed my oil at the same time since the cover was off.

Nice :dblthumb: I need my belts changed now, I'm glad this thread came up!! Installed my intake and noticed the front belt was cracked and dry! Didn't look very hard at all to get in the front one... I will try the goodyear belts and replace them myself also!! Thanks guys!!

I was recently told that my AC and starter belts need to be replaced since they are showing cuts. I could not see any such wear and tear. My 08 only has about 40k miles and not quite 4 years. The dealership told me that it is common for the M to go through belts at 40k miles or so. The charge estimate was 175. Anybody have any thoughts on how often belts should be changed on the M. Just did my Yukon Denali XL at 90k and only because they were performing other warranty work so I just had to pay for the belts and no labor.

thanks

I had mine replaced at 45k for $200 at a Nissan Dealer. They told me my belts were cracked during an oil change visit.
$300 seems a bit much.

Call up your local Nissan Dealer and tell them that you want to have the belts changed on your 07 Altima 3.5 and they will quote a number less than 300. Then get them to do it. Part numbers for the belts are the same for Infiniti and Nissan.

They are certified Nissan tech's and the work will be covered under warranty.

Belts are easy to change on the M35. The whole process can be done from above, in less than an hour, if you are at all mechanically inclined. Total cost... $40. Take the $160 you save by doing it yourself & get the car detailed while smoking a Cohiba
