Belts

I just got don replacing all 3 belts, thermostat, water-pump and when i started the car there is this loud screeching noise...prob the belts but i loosened them a little and still the screech....does anyone know what it could be? Thanks!

I thinking screeching is usally caused by belt being loose. Someone told me to chalk them and they will stop making noise. Chalk them one by one so you can isolate the one that is making the noise. there is belt threatment you can buy. im not sure if dishsoap is a good idea. they should have about 1/4 inch of deflection.

I had this problem, 9 out of 10 it's your alternator belt. Just play around with the tensioner until the screeching goes away.

Alright thanks. So I went outside this morning to mess w/ it some more and I noticed that when I gave it gas smoke clouds came out of the exaust pipe...no clue what it could be, it didnt smoke before i changed everything.
